"E Stanley paving did a great job. Their representative Joe was friendly and professional and able to answer all our questions. They started the job within a few days of the initial visit. It entailed a lot more work than I thought. They had to bust up three sections of the driveway in order to make it level and get a proper base and had to raise a drain in the driveway. Due to many issues with the county grinder in our front yard that the county has had to excavate our driveway had sunk down 3 inches. They created a smooth surface level to the sidewalk and did a nice job on the edges. We couldn't be more thrilled."

"I found Freedom Fence and Deck online and they contacted me back very quickly and I had the pleasure of working with Brent. Not only did he come out to my house after hours, on a number of occasions, and even on weekends. In the midst of changes and reviews he made instant contact and coordinated with his team and things were resolved timely. Not only was he amazing to work with but their product was exceptional and the team was very hardworking! In the recent "cyclone bomb" that hit NE US, a huge 65' tree fell between my home and my neighbors. The fence completely braced the fall and the tree was resting on my neighbors house, on top of his infants room. The fence possibly saved lives and I am beyond grateful that their service was so high quality that it managed to make what could of been a disaster more reasonable to deal with. The tree fell on a Friday and by Sunday Brent was back out at my house taking pictures, provided a potential quote, and working with me to have the damage resolved. I cannot thank this team enough for their hard work and exceptional service. Thank you Freedom Fence and Deck!"

"Our project was relatively small for what â the big guysâ were willing to work on, but Dan gave us the attention to detail and thoughtful consideration we were seeking. My wife and I are both landscape architects and have high standards for the quality of installation. Dan and his crew were true craftsmen and were willing to make sure they constructed our walkway and patio just as we envisioned. Ecoscapes delivered the job on time and with competitive pricing."

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

The dimensions of a driveway apron vary based on local building codes, the width of your driveway, and the distance between the driveway and the road. On average, aprons range from 12 to 24 feet wide and 8 to 18 feet long. Typically, the end of the apron connected to the driveway matches its width—such as 10 to 12 feet for a single-car driveway—while the end at the street flares out to allow cars to turn in and out more easily. In some areas, you may not be responsible for the portion of the apron that extends beyond the sidewalk, but this depends on local laws.

The material that’s best for your private road depends on your property, the climate in your area, and your personal preferences. Gravel is an affordable option, but some homeowners don’t like how it looks. It can be a pain to remove snow from, and it requires more ongoing maintenance than asphalt or concrete. However, while these other options require less maintenance and make snow removal a breeze, they’re more expensive and will need repairs from time to time. Ultimately, you’ll have to choose the road material that suits you and your property best.

While water-related pressure caused by poor drainage is one common cause of paver cracking, other factors can include ground movement beneath pavers, heavy loads and wear and tear over the pavers, and climates with constant freeze-thaw cycles. In general, pavers should be resealed every three to five years to prevent cracking.

Professional installers often include a deep layer of crushed gravel under permeable pavers to allow more runoff to soak through into the soil below. Many installations will include multiple layers of gravel, with coarser aggregate at the base and finer aggregate that sits on top of that bottom layer. Above the gravel, you’ll often find coarse sand that helps reduce paver shifting over time. Some permeable paver designs include a water collection system set into the gravel layer to route runoff to a safe area for disposal.

After removing existing moss, consider using paver blocking sand to fill the joints. This specialty material hardens once placed and serves as an effective barrier against moss and weeds. From there on, regularly clean your pavers and try to keep them dry. You can also seal your paver as a semi-permanent solution — just make sure you reseal every 3 to 5 years.
