"I worked with RB Skimcoat Plastering & Drywall in November 2023 and highly recommend them. Randy was wonderful to work with - he communicated very well and often before and during the process, always kind and courteous, and answered my questions in a very timely manner with a lot of helpful information. My old horse hair plaster walls had been heavily textured over. Our original plan was for Randy and his team to overly the walls with drywall, however, we decided to change plans when it became clear that the end result wouldn't be what I was looking for. Randy did not hesitate and changed plans easily - they ended up skim coat plastering over my walls and giving them a perfectly smooth surface/finish! I still can't believe it! They also took down my old drop tile ceiling and installed a beautiful drywall ceiling. I am beyond happy with the end result and plan to work with Randy and his team again for future projects."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Water-damaged drywall should almost always be replaced. Not only does it look bad, it’s a breeding ground for toxic mold. Even if you think the area is dry and there’s no active leak, the only way to be sure is to cut out the damaged area and see for yourself.

There are some instances when you can use extra drywall in your garden. Ideally, unused scraps of new drywall are best for amending soil without the concern of additional chemicals or mold. However, drywall with paint, mold, or potential asbestos requires specialized disposal by a professional and should be kept out of your garden.

Costs depend on labor, material quality, wall preparation, and finishing requirements.

Yes, a fan can help drywall mud dry faster by improving air circulation and reducing humidity in the room. Drywall mud dries through evaporation, so increasing airflow speeds up this process. However, you should position the fan to blow across the room rather than directly on the wet mud. This helps prevent drying too quickly, which can cause cracking. You should also use a dehumidifier if high humidity is an issue.

You can take a few steps to save money on drywall installation, even when hiring a professional to do the bulk of the work for you. These ideas include the following:

  • Buy the drywall and other materials yourself to avoid product markup and delivery fees

  • Ask about discounts if you use the same company to tape, spackle, and paint

  • Hire drywall professionals in the winter when demand is the lowest

  • DIY as many parts of the project as possible, like replacing insulation and painting
