"These guys did a fantastic job, very professional and clean. They were able to renovate both floors on my two family home within my budget and in a timely fashion. Handled everything from top to bottom, full clean out, gut bathrooms and kitchen, completely transformed the place. Couldn’t be happier with the finish product. Would recommend and hire again!"

Small jobs welcome

"I'm not going to lie, Diego and his crews is hardworking people and did a great job on landscaping. Prices is little bit high?... but I'm not sure since I don't know anything about landscaping. I am happy with my results. Definitely, hiring them again to do my next fence."

"Generator would not start and if it did start, it would not run for long. Disassembled the carburetor, examined it and reassembled it. Engine starts and runs. All in his magic touch I guess. But I am very glad I now have a generator that runs since a storm is due to arrive within hours."

"The team at Rodenhiser is highly recommended. I hired them to fill my yard over the process of about 6 months (we lost count on the yardage of fill, but it was probably around 2000yards). This only stopped when it was too wet to drive the trucks out to dump fill. After the fill was done, Rodenhiser loamed and graded my lawn the following spring. Throughout this time, I found that I was excited to see the truck drivers, equipment operators, and Bill Rodenhiser each time they stopped by to dump fill or move earth. I made the comment to my friends/family/coworkers that sometimes I think that Bill is more excited to landscape my yard than I am! I also spent a little time working with Bill on my yard, so I got to know him a bit. Bill works very hard, wants to get the job rolling immediately, and is very responsive to texts or changes in schedules. My yard now is unbelievable, far beyond what I thought I had hired Rodenhiser Excavating for and I will continue to be their client. My friends will likely be Rodenhiser’s client in the future. I have put some photos up of the before, during, and after"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

No, a ditch isn’t a trench. A ditch is an open, relatively shallow channel that’s carved out of the ground and used for drainage purposes. In contrast, a trench is a deeper excavation that’s entirely underground. Trenches have many uses, including gas lines, sewage systems, and electrical wiring. Unlike trenches, ditches don’t get filled back in with dirt after they’re dug.

In the United States, a depth of 36 inches (three feet) for underground water lines is the accepted industry standard. This depth varies from location to location based on local conditions. In areas with colder winters, they may be buried deeper to prevent frozen well water pipes : This is usually at least six inches below the frost level. The International Plumbing Code calls for a minimum of 12 inches below grade.

A joint utility trench, or joint trench, is a long, buried ditch on a property that contains two or more utility lines rather than running the lines in multiple trenches. Some utilities, like gas and electric or electric and communication lines, are better suited to joint trenching, while others, like water and sewer, are not allowed to be in the same trench.

You should dig 3 to 6 inches deep for plastic edging. Dig as wide as you need to fit your plastic edging into it—2 inches is usually sufficient.

Skunk digging looks like a series of small, cone-shaped holes on a lawn or around the perimeter of a home, porch, deck, or shed. The holes that skunks dig when searching for grubs tend to be no more than four inches in diameter and may be up to four inches deep.
