Hi. My name is Liz, and together with my husband, Luis, his son Marcelo, and his nephew Renato, we are Berkshire Handyman.\n\nWe are in Pittsfield and we serve central Berkshire County. We do what we say and we say what we will do. We don’t make promises we can’t deliver on. We’re not the cheapest. But, personally, I think we are the best.\n\n(We’re also really nice.)

"I am sitting here looking at my newly painted computer room with great satisfaction. Steve did an excellent job with maximum efficiency and expertise that demonstrated his 30 plus years of experience. The kitchen and living room were also painted, and when I walk through it feels like I am walking into a new house. He appeared to really enjoy what he does, making it easy to have him around. He completed the job in the estimated time period, and was worth every penny!! I have already recommended him to friends and family."

"Had an accent wall and kitchen wallpapered... could not be happier! Doug is very skillful and the walls are amazing. He also painted another accent wall black and the entire living area a neutral color. He was back today for touch ups and my home is now ready for the Holidays!!! I plan on seeing him in the Spring for patio staining! As a senior citizen, l am very picky as to whom l let in my home... l was very comfortable with him being here. I thought his rates were reasonable and l have no hesitation recommending him (highly)!!!"

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

While some people are confident in their ability to replace concrete by drilling out the broken pieces and replacing them with bagged concrete, it’s possible to run into snags that make hiring a professional worth it. Trying to level concrete slabs can require special equipment, which can be pricey to rent and tough to operate. It's also crucial to contact your town's municipal office to ensure you are allowed to take on the project without a permit.

Putting up new wallpaper tends to take one to two days, depending on the size of the area, whether old paper needs to be removed, and if there is any damage to walls that needs to be smoothed over or fixed.

Once again, contact with moisture is the culprit here, though water-resistant varieties of wallpaper are less likely to become wet and develop mold. Using a high-quality exhaust fan or dehumidifier and leaving the doors or windows cracked after bathing will keep this issue at bay.

The pros of wallpaper include its durability and longer lifespan than paint, as well as its versatility. The durability can translate to lower long-term costs for upkeep and replacement, and the versatility means you have more options for customizing rooms in your home. Some downsides include that it’s difficult to remove, it’s not ideal for rooms or areas exposed to high moisture content or sun exposure, and it’s tricky to install. A professional wallpaper hanger can help mitigate these issues, though, by installing it properly and in areas suitable for wallpaper.

No, you don’t need to apply paint primer to your wall before hanging paintable wallpaper. Manufacturers design paintable wallpaper so that the paint will adhere effectively, so primer isn’t necessary. Plus, even if you opt for a light shade of paint, you won’t have to worry about the shade underneath showing through because you are painting on a light, white surface.
