Customers say: Super punctual

"We hired McLaughlin & Williams through the MassSave program, which had performed an energy saving audit for our house and made a clear checklist of work to be done that we could confirm with the contractors. We scheduled the job months in advance, but they were flexible when we needed to reschedule at relatively short notice. Jay and his team showed up early the first day, and clearly laid out the work they were going to do, and why. When weather and scheduling issues prevented work on the second day, they sent a double team on the third to make sure everything got done within the scheduled time. In general, the workers took good care. The exterior siding that was removed for injection was cleanly replaced, though some shingles that were already damaged or waterlogged were a little worse off. Despite all the dust that comes with blown cellulose, there were only a few traces inside. They also made sure our cats didn't get out. During the course of the job, they also found that there was already some wall insulation in one section of our house, and only charged us for the work done."

"John responded quickly when I called to drywall a couple of walls that had been damaged due to a water leak. He came over in a couple of days to give a quote and scheduled the work in the same week. He arrived promptly as per schedule and finished the work on time and professionally. Very happy with his promptness and professionalism and would definitely use again.

"Drywall replaced and cracks in a number of other walls. Also a ceiling where a drywall seam was showing, and now you can’t see it even though it’s not painted yet! Highly recommend! Really nice guy!"

"Here’s the updated 5-star review including walls ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I highly recommend TA Solutions for any kitchen project! They did an excellent job on my kitchen demo and remodel including the ceilings and walls, and the results came out gorgeous I was beyond impressed Tony and his team were GREAT throughout the entire project. They were always here when scheduled, the price was fair, and everything stayed on track. I really appreciated how clean and organized they were — they cleaned up daily, which made a big difference. TASolutions was professional, reliable, and easy to work with from start to finish. I would absolutely hire TA Solutions again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality work."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Yes, drywall nail pops are a common occurrence in homes, both new and old, resulting from the settling and shifting of the structure over time. Though not present in every room or on every wall, encountering nail pops in different sections of a home is not unusual, particularly if the temperature, humidity, or foundation has experienced changes.

Yes, you can install drywall over plaster, but there are important factors to consider. While it can create a smooth, flat surface, it is often not the best approach. Installing drywall over plaster will increase the wall's thickness, which can cause issues with existing window and door frames that may no longer fit. You might also need to adjust power outlets to keep them accessible. A better, though more expensive, option is to remove the old plaster and lath entirely before installing new drywall. Drywalling directly over plaster seals in the old material, and if any problems arise later, you will need to remove both layers down to the structural beams for repairs. Given the potential complications, this job is best handled by professionals.

Yes, as drywall mud is going to have some uneven spots and bumps after application. Such imperfections are going to be visible after everything dries and even after you paint the wall, so you want to remove them. Learning how to sand drywall, taking your time, and following drywall sanding tips can help you have the best results.

Some painters will repair minor drywall damage. For repair work of any kind, it’s a good idea to hire the professional required for the job. Many painters will have the materials on hand and can add them to the total cost. While you may save some money, there is a chance the work will be subpar compared to a professional who specializes in drywall.

There are six levels of drywall finish, from 0 to 5, that refer to the amount of work performed during the finishing process.

Level 0: Drywall is hung with no finishing work.

Level 1: Tape is placed over the seams between drywall sheets.

Level 2: A thin layer of mud is applied over the tape and screw holes. This level is common for utility rooms or walls that will be covered.

Level 3: A full coat of mud covers the screw holes and tape, but the surface is not sanded. This is often used in garages.

Level 4: This is the most common finish for visible interior walls. It involves applying two coats of mud over seams and screw holes, with sanding between each coat, creating a smooth surface ready for flat paint.

Level 5: This is a high-end finish for luxury homes. It includes full taping, mudding, and sanding, plus a final skim coat over the entire surface before painting.
