Customers say: Super punctual

"After initial conversations with John, I hired ASAP to complete my lead inspection for a recent property that I acquired. John was able to answer all my questions and address all of my concerns. Chris came out to complete the inspection within 48 hrs of my request. He was very thorough in his report, which I had in my hands in less than two days. I was able to hand over the report to the removal company that I ended up hiring. When the job was complete, Chris came back out within 48 hrs of the request to complete the reinspection and tests. I have no concerns with ASAP and would definitely use them in the future. They were very quick to respond to me and address all of my questions and concerns."

"Spoke to James on the phone and he was extremely helpful! I thought I disturbed asbestos when I picked some layers of wallpaper off a wall and was very nervous. James talked me through it and helped me realize I didn’t find asbestos. He was extremely knowledgeable and I wish I could have met him in person!"

Lead Testing and Removal questions, answered by experts

How you test for lead in your water depends on the source of your home's water supply. If you have municipal water, your local water system may offer to test the water for free or may connect you to a lab that will perform the testing.

If you have a private well that provides drinking water, you are responsible for testing it for lead. Look for a lab that is accredited by your state's Department of Environmental Protection to perform the test.

While the EPA provides guidelines for homeowners to perform DIY lead paint removal, it is a risky process and generally not recommended due to serious health risks and strict regulatory requirements. The process requires precise safety precautions, such as wearing a respirator and protective eyeglasses, creating sealed exits, and using a HEPA vacuum for cleanup. To ensure the job is done safely, effectively, and in compliance with regulations, it is highly recommended to hire a professional lead abatement company. Certified professionals have the necessary training, experience, and specialized equipment (like chemical strippers and HEPA vacuums) to handle and dispose of hazardous materials safely.

Some of the signs that could mean your water is contaminated, such as cloudiness or bubbliness, could also be non-problems that don’t affect your water’s potability. However, if your water smells or tastes strange, it’s a good idea to stop drinking it and test it immediately. If your well water is contaminated, the best way to discover that is to test it.

The average cost of a lead paint inspection is about $600, but it can cost as low as $150 or as much as $800, depending on the size of the area, geographic location, and the inspection methods. Some of the most common lead paint inspection methods include:

  • Visual inspection: $150–$400

  • Paint sampling: $200–$600

  • X-ray fluorescence (XRF): $250–$700

  • Risk assessment: $300–$800

While not all homes built before 1978 contain lead paint, enough do, so you’ll still want to test to be on the safe side. The federal government banned lead-based paint for homes in 1978, but your state may have banned lead before that time. Around 24% of homes built between 1960 and 1977 contained lead-based paint, while 87% of homes built before 1940 contained lead-based paint.
