"It went unbelievably well. We were in a panic when we found fluffy particles in our wall. We were afraid we were exposing our two toddlers to asbestos. We found this on a Saturday when we removed a medicine cabinet from our bathroom wall. We called 14 different service providers and were able to reach Clean Air Environmental, Inc. He not only showed up within a half an hour but spent a lot of extra time explaining what he was doing and even found a three inch piece of abestos tape on a duct in our basement. He also analyzed the fluffy insulation and concluded that it was not asbestos. It was extremely comforting having such a professional take the extra time to calmly and professionally explain the job and prices while we in a state of perceived crisis."

"A big thumbs up to the entire Abide crew! Was quick and easy to schedule the quote. Jerry came out, right on time, and quickly assessed the situation. Quote received a few days later and was able to book immediately after signing the agreement. Another customer cancelled so they called me to offer the spot (the very next day), which I accepted. Glen and his crew were courteous and efficient. They covered the floors carefully to prevent any damage and completed the job, beyond my expectations, within the day. I'd definitely recommend and hire them again!"

Siding questions, answered by experts

Yes, by sourcing materials and textures that blend seamlessly.

Professional installers typically recommend caulking between siding boards, but it depends on the material. With Hardie board and fiber cement siding, manufacturers don't recommend adding caulk because it can trap moisture in the joints or discourage flexibility in fluctuating temperatures. Consult your local siding contractor about caulking best practices before adding any to your home’s exterior.

When it comes to fiber cement siding maintenance, it’s not too much work. However, it needs to be painted about every 15 years and may need to be re-caulked to prevent mold. Be sure to also wash your fiber cement siding with a lower-powered garden hose at least twice a year to avoid buildup and fading as well.

You can put new siding over clapboards, but it’s not recommended. Some sidings, like vinyl siding, can go over clapboards with sheathing like a foam layer in between. However, it’s best to remove clapboard siding if you plan on replacing it with new siding. Burying wood clapboards underneath new siding can create risks of rot and mold, or hidden insect damage. It can also create warping issues over time. Removing clapboards allows you to properly install a new sheathing, as well as clean up the exterior wall and look for any signs of damage.

Siding and cladding are two popular exterior wall coverings that protect homes from the elements and provide insulation, but they differ in design and application. Siding is applied directly to a home’s exterior, providing some insulation and basic shielding from the elements. In contrast, cladding is installed indirectly over furring strips, creating a ventilated air gap for enhanced insulation and moisture control.
