Founded in 1971 by Freeman Winslow, E.F. Winslow began as a small plumbing company. Today, E.F. Winslow has proven itself as Cape Cod's most reliable service company for plumbing, heating, air conditioning, electrical, septic, oil delivery, central vacuum, remodeling and kitchen and bath design.

"Unresponsive and Unprofessional. Workers didn't show when they said they would. They did not finish the job, but told me they did. Left trash everywhere. They also installed an outdoors unit on my neighbor's property and want me to pay $7,500 to move it. This would have just been a simple fix, but they have been making it extremely difficult leaving me no choice but to file a complaint against their license and their bond."

B&B Excavation is a family owned & operated company with 30 years experience in our field. We offer free estimates and very competitive pricing on both commercial & residential projects. Serving all of Cape Cod, as well as off-Cape areas, we are known for our professionalism and high quality of work.

"We needed to have our leeching field replaced, we did not need a new tank. We sent out multiple requests for bids. They were the first bid that we received, which was great because we needed this job done by a certain date. Their bid was lower than what our engineer thought that it should be, so we hired them, there was about a one month wait. About 2 weeks later we got some bids and they were much lower than B&B. B&B would not lower their price at all. They did a good job and it was completed on time, so we're happy for that."

"DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE!!!*** Called this company inquiring about their services/to discuss the problem I was having with my Panel. Spoke with Allura on 10/5 who was very helpful & pleasant. Upon speaking with her she made me aware they could send someone out the following day. She told me it’d be $95 for every 30 minutes but that they typically find the problem within that first thirty minutes. if any work was done that same day the $95 would then be deducted off my bill. Awesome right? Wrong. She gave me INCORRECT INFORMATION. Fast forward to 10/6 they come out to my home. (Wish my husband had gotten the gentlemen’s name who had actually did the work but unfortunately he did not.) within the first 30 minutes they indeed did find the problem, the floats on my septic pump were stuck with grease. The worker said all that needed to be done was to power wash them to clean up the gunk and that we’d be all set. A little over an hour later the man then knocks on our door and says everything is all set. That we had one float he felt needed to be replaced but he doesn’t like replacing just one so he went ahead and replaced all 4 at the cost of $150 EACH! He did work on our property without fully disclosing what exactly he would be doing we were upset but obviously had no other option but to go along with it and pay. The work was already done. We got our bill which was $800 unsure of where he got the number from he broke it down and stated $600 for the 4 parts he replaced at the price of $150 each and $195 for a technical service fee that they charged everyone just for coming out. I explained that’s not what I got told yesterday, Allura said It would be $95 and if I got work done that $95 would be deducted. He couldn’t honor what Allura told me and suggested I call the company. So I did, I called the company. Allura was out, so I spoke with her supervisor Robin, who was oh so sure I didn’t get told that, that’s not their policy and the $195 is non refundable. She said she would call Allura and see if that’s indeed what she did say so we can resolve the issue. I got a phone call back from Robin an hour stating that Allura did indeed make a mistake and tell me that information but the $195 is non refundable and there wasn’t much she could do. I didn’t get an apology or any sincere sense of remorse for the inconvenience they set upon their paying customer. I was disappointed and that was clear, she then spoke with the owner who said all he could do was give me $95 off my next service with them.. lol sir you technically owe me much more than $95 and I will never be doing business with your company again. So thanks but no thanks. PLEASE TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE!! THIS COMPANIES CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS! They absolutely do not honor their word, and obviously DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR MISTAKES. HORRIBLE."

"We noticed a slight leak around the base of the main-bath toilet, so we called a few plumbers. Aqua was the only one that had a live person answer the phone. Megan from Aqua took down the information on our plumbing issue and indicated a plumber could come out first thing the next morning. Tyler, the plumber from Aqua, called us first thing that morning to say he was on his way. He arrived shortly after with his assistant, and he replaced the toilet wax wing with two rings. We also asked him to check the slow-draining sink in the main bath, which he snaked. He then made sure both the toilet and sink drain were working well. Megan from the office left a voicemail the other morning to check on things. The job went well from Megan's scheduling and "after-care" call to Tyler's work."

"PLEASE SEE LESSONS LEARNED IN CAPS THROUGHOUT. In fairness, they had just lost an employee and their office was harried, but mine was definitely not a good experience. I paid $375 for the title V inspection. 2 guys came, poked the ground for 5 minutes, didn't find a riser and cap, & left saying they could not do the inspection and would have to excavate the site. LESSON ONE: require them to pull the prior Title V before coming out, which would have given them the depth of the system ahead of time. Capewide would not give me a quote to excavate, only said the excavation equipment cost $170/hr to rent. They then excavated, said the system failed because the distribution box had to be upgraded to a H20, filled in the hole and left. Next Capewide sent me a bill for an additional $2285 for the first excavation (with no breakout) and a quote of an additional $2600 to upgrade the DBox. They refused to credit me for the $375 they charged me for the 10 minutes their first inspectors poked around. LESSON TWO: check the last Title V before you start. If you have a walk-out basement, the system is going to be deep. If the previous owner didn't install risers, you are going to have to excavate. Be sure to only hire a Septic inspection co. that has their own excavation equipment. I said I wanted to check the 6 year old Title V inspection to see why the previous inspector passed it before I paid the additional $2600. This was not a criticism of Capewide rather the 2012 inspector. They were not enthusiastic about my going to the County. LESSON THREE: The town inspector said the requirement to upgrade to an H20 was only for new builds, mine was grandfathered and did not need to be replaced. I had Capewide on the phone to ask them some questions and the town inspector pulled my cell out of my hand saying they wanted to explain to Capewide directly. Capewide told the county inspector they had 'learned something', They next called back and said the sides of the box were collapsed. After I left the County office, the Capewide inspector called me and tore me 'a new one' for putting him in the embarassing position of having to speak to the inspector. I tried to explain that the inspector had grabbed the phone but he wouldn't have it. I decided to get another quote before proceeding, especially since they would not break out the $2600 additional expense and called an excavation co. that did septic inspections (and owned the excavation Equipment). The 2nd company quote me $1650 or 37% less. They did the work. I monitored and photographed it. There was slight degradation in one of the walls of the Dbox but it was not collapsed. If I had gone to them in the first place my cost would have been $3300 vs. $5260 from Capewide. I have kept my recordings of the calls with Capewide. Again, not a good experience."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Your sewer line can get grimy quickly. To prevent sludge buildup in your sewer line, pour a mixture of 1/3 cup of vinegar and 1/3 cup of baking soda down each drain in your home once a month. After about 30 minutes, flush the drain with hot water.

Some plumbers recommend 3/4 cup of bleach instead to clean any germs and bacteria that may build up in your sewer line. But this won’t break down any active clogs, and it cannot be combined with vinegar, as the mixture will create a toxic, hazardous gas.

Avoid flushing non-degradable items, schedule regular inspections, and address minor clogs promptly.

It can take anywhere from one month to a couple of years for tree roots to grow back in sewer lines. Tree roots can cause extreme havoc on your sewer lines, potentially cracking them and causing untreated wastewater to make its way into the groundwater. Have a landscaping pro remove trees and roots before installing your system, or call a pro to do it retroactively as soon as you can.

It is generally safe to stay in a house with sewer gas for a short time, even though short-term exposure is unpleasant. However, prolonged inhalation can cause headaches, nausea, or respiratory irritation. High levels of methane—which is in sewer gas—can pose an explosion risk in enclosed spaces. Ventilate the area and call a pro if you smell sewer gas or experience related health symptoms.

Costs range from $200 to $600, depending on the severity of the blockage and access difficulty.
