DBA: Sawyer Service and Sawyer Tree and Sawyer Landscaping. Owner Operated. Charges determined by Specific Job. Travel charges may apply. No Service Fee. Ask about our Angie's List Discount. We accept MasterCard and Visa. Financing available. 20-25 Seasonal employees.

"Sawyer services assessed our precast concrete front entry stairs.. There are 3 steps and a landing. They determined the precast stairs could be covered with bluestone and paving stones added on the vertical risers and sides of steps. Two other hardscape companies had said this was not wise and it should not be done, that the precast stone could not support that sort of overlay. Sawyer services assured us it would work and requested a deposit which we provided. The work was completed and looked good…until it began to crack. We contacted Sawyer who said they’d be over to check but never came. After repeated calls, and Sawyer being very apologetic, promising to contact us with a time which never happened, we gave up. We contacted them the following spring, and heard the same apologies with promises to ‘call within 2 weeks to schedule a visit’. We now have a cracked and crumbling entry and will call a professional company who can adequately assess and repair this job. Beware using Sawyer services, they may sound knowledgeable and professional, but their work is neither."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

If a tree stump is removed properly, the chances of a tree growing back are low. However, if a tree has a robust root system, roots can sometimes sprout and someday grow into a tree. The chance of regrowth will depend on several factors such as the type of tree, soil quality, and strength of the root system. In general, it is not recommended to plant a tree where a stump was removed.

Since summer is a busy time for tree companies, the cheapest time of year to remove a tree is during the winter. February and March are typically the prime time to hire a tree removal pro, and some homeowners living in colder climates can save around 20% off services. It depends on location and the company, but you can always shop around for the best deal.

The average lifespan of an oak tree is 100 to 300 years, so long as it isn’t impacted by diseases like sudden oak death. Some species will last shorter or longer, depending on where you live.

The ideal depth of a tree notch depends on the tree, but it should usually be between 20% and 25% of the tree’s depth. However, if the tree is leaning towards the direction of the notch, it can be cut more shallowly—at as little as 10% of the depth. When the tree is leaning away from the direction it needs to be felled, you can cut deeper, closer to 30%.

Yes, in most municipalities, arborists or tree surgeons need to hold an arborist’s license, which usually requires specialized education and specific experience. Certified arborists must also pass an exam from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). In addition to a license, you should always confirm that the tree surgeon you’re hiring is fully insured, as this can help you avoid legal problems if the professional gets injured on your property. Keep in mind that some municipalities require tree removal and other services to be completed by a licensed arborist.
