Called Hayward (Joe), he responded about a day later.  He was very nice and professional, told me his pricing over the phone and scheduled a time to visit and do the job (about a week later).  Surprisingly he scheduled the visit for 4:30, but he said he would be able to get the job done that day.

He showed up as scheduled (maybe 30 minutes late, but well within reason) and again was friendly, and quickly measured my stumps and gave me a hard quote ($450, which seemed quite reasonable to me and less than I had from another vendor).  I approved the work and he did it right away, completing the job just as he claimed (completing it around 7 PM).

One stump was challenging - there were rocks stuck in the roots and he spent a long time on that tree.  But he successfully completed the job, grinding all the stumps well below the surface.

As he said on the phone, and later in person - he does not clean up the job.  So you are left with a mixture of wood chips and dirt to clean up.  Since he was up front about this, I have no issues or concerns about it.

I have many more trees coming down later this year, and will use his services again.

Joe was responsive when I called.  He came and offered a written estimate quickly.  We originally scheduled the work for one day, but he had to reschedule to another.  He gave us plenty of notice when he needed to reschedule.  On the new date, he completed the work quickly and thoroughly, grinding well below the surface.  Joe's equipment was able to handle this large stump, which was good---other companies that advertised stump grinding weren't able to.

He told us in advance that he doesn't remove the ground material, so that wasn't a surprise.  If we were to need another stump ground, we'd hire Joe.  The only thing that could convince us otherwise would be if a company were willing to remove the refuse created.  Since this seems like an uncommon service, we'd probably hire Joe again.

It wasn't the best experience, but it wasn't the worst. They accomplished the task. He told me that he was going to be there, and he didn't show. He told me something about a mother in the hospital. He wasn't as responsive as I would've hoped. He did the work about a week later. He didn't cart away any of the refuse. He did a good job of getting down deep, but I still have a hole in my yard.

Contacted the company to have a small tree stump removed. My call was returned promptly, reasonable estimate provided and time scheduled for the work. On day of work, came early - but called to ask if that was ok. Once onsite was very professional, knowledgeable and courteous. Would recommend this company.

I called about having two spruce tree stumps ground and was told the price over the phone. We scheduled a day and time for the job, but when Joe was in the neighborhood a week earlier, he called to ask if he could do it that day. I described the location of the stumps over the phone, and found the work completed when I arrived home later that night. The stumps and debris were gone. The holes were open, so I was able to see the spaces now available for planting, and it only took me a few minutes to refill the holes. It was a very good, quick, well-priced job.

The guy that did the work was Joseph Hayward and he is responsible. He did a good job for a reasonable price. Since he charges by the hour and the grinding didn't take him that long, he asked me if I had other things he could help me with to make my hour worth it. I didn't have anything else, but I appreciated his concern. His price was very fair, someone else had quoted me twice as much.
