"Marquis Tree Service was great from start to finish on this big job. John Marquis came out to scope the work, calculated the price on the spot, and tagged the trees that needed to be removed. A few trees were within the wetland buffer zone, so John wrote an excellent, detailed letter to our Conservation Commission to get approval for the removal. I had to be out of town the day they were scheduled to take down the 13 tall pines near our house, and I was worried about not being there to deal with issues, but John assured me all would be well. He called me that morning before they started the job, called me during the job to discuss taking down one more tree that hadn't been tagged initially, and confirmed when the work was done. I expected some damage to the lawn or driveway, but when I got home the only evidence that the crews had been there was the missing trees. I've used two other tree services over the past 20 years, and Marquis wins. They have the right equipment for the biggest jobs, the office staff is responsive, the crews work carefully and efficiently, the owner knows his stuff (he holds degrees in forestry and is a certified arborist), and (surprisingly) their price was competitive. I'd trust them with the biggest/trickiest jobs."

"Very glad having Aaron A plus tree service helping remove over 10 trees near the house in 3 days of work. Given the size of the trees and the proximity to house, Aaron and his team did all the work with extreme care and efficiency. "I had two semi-dead ash trees threatening my deck and my house. These 70ft trees were along my property line and less than 20 feet from my deck. I was afraid that a severe storm would bring them down. Mr. Slocum brought studied the situation. We agreed on a price and he brought in his equipment and crew who skillfully brought them down piece by piece. I was amazed how accurately and carefully he got the job done. They put on a fine show. They stacked the big pieces onto a truck, ground up the rest and hauled it all away. I was very please with the work. They had to navigate their trucks and equipment through some other a large maple trees to do this job and didn't damage a twig. These things weighed tons. I would certainly call them back the next time I needed tree work."

"William came out to remove two tree stumps from our condominium courtyard. He arrived right on time and we went over the job with him. He quickly sized up the job and gave us a fair price. William was very efficient and thorough in doing all the work that needed to be done to clear the area. He was very professional, kind, and careful to make sure we were happy with his work, and he offered to help with tree planting in the future. We highly recommend William and will definitely call on him again when we need help of this kind."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Ideally, you should wait to prune until trees have gone dormant in late fall to early winter. The worst times to prune trees are early fall and late summer, as pruning them so close to dormancy makes it difficult for the tree recover before it goes dormant for the season.

Peach trees don’t tend to live as long as other types of trees and crops. They tend to last only about 12 years, and you shouldn’t expect to see a full peach harvest each of those years, either. Young peach trees need a few years to get established before they produce fruit, but you should have plenty of peaches for your pies and cobblers during their mature years, around years four through eight.

The shepherd’s tree, native to the Kalahari Desert in Africa, holds the record for the deepest known tree roots at over 230 feet deep. Some African communities refer to it as the “Tree of Life” since it provides food, shade, and medicinal properties to the surrounding community.

Transporting a fully-grown tree requires heavy equipment, typically specialized for the task. A tree spade is a truck-mounted tool that removes the tree from the ground in one location, transports it, and places it in a new hole in a new location. A combination of mechanized shovels and lifts is necessary to move very large trees, and the exact tools often depend on location and the surrounding area.

Pruning trees is important for several reasons. It improves tree health and strength by removing dead, diseased, or unwanted branches, which in turn encourages new growth and can help treat disease. For fruit trees, proper pruning can lead to a larger and better-quality harvest. Pruning also enhances safety by removing weak limbs that could break and fall, potentially causing injury or property damage, especially during storms. Beyond these functional benefits, pruning can also improve a tree's appearance. To ensure pruning is done correctly for the tree's long-term health, consider hiring a professional.
