"I rarely / never take the time to write reviews, but I consider it an honor in this case. Malvern did some electrical work at my house that ended up being not much in the way of "work" at all. In fact, he talked me OUT of having any actual work done by showing me simple fixes to problems that have been plaguing me for quite some time. Frequent trips on dining room circuit were due to too many incandescent bulbs. Flickering lights in another chandelier were due to a loose connection. A "rewiring" problem was fixed by simply plugging something into a different (less vulnerable/loaded) outlet. There were some other things he showed me as well, but the approach was the same: incredible troubleshooting to find the lowest/no-cost solution. Malvern did all this without making me feel like an idiot, which would have been appropriate given that "user error" was the closest thing to a common denominator across these varied issues. "We hired Todd for an extensive remodel of our home and couldn’t be more thrilled with how nice it turned out, how smooth the process was, and how helpful Todd was along the entire way. The project has been complete for a while, I am just now following up with a long overdue review. Downstairs Todd removed 2 walls including a staircase to create an open living space for us. Where the walls were removed, he installed 3 new support beams per the engineer’s design, and then wrapped them with rustic oak boards to make them look like original beams, and they turned out beautifully. He installed all new trim around the downstairs windows to match the rest of the house. Todd gutted our old kitchen and built an island for us, installing all new cabinets, crown molding, and the appliances. He even custom modified 2 drawers in the island so that we could conceal the electrical outlets behind part of the drawer panel but not lose the entire storage space of the drawer. He did such a great job with the drawer modification they look like they came that way from the factory. The entire kitchen turned out perfect. During the same remodel, we also hired Todd to combine 2 bedrooms into a new master suite. This involved removing walls, installing a beam, and installing new walls for the new master bathroom and closet. While the ceiling was opened up Todd noticed a drip coming from above on a rainy day, and after finding the source, he offered us a very reasonable price to replace a small section of siding to ensure we wouldn’t have any water issues. We are grateful he was so observant and willing to go the extra mile for us by fixing this issue that was not originally in our scope. In the new master bathroom the extensive amount of tile and the new glass shower enclosure that he installed couldn’t have turned out any nicer, all the lines were perfect. He took great care in his tile usage, minimizing waste with his cuts which we appreciated especially on the expensive tile he installed in a decorative strip. Todd was great to work with throughout the entire project and very professional day in and day out. Being such a large project, as it progressed there were several things we realized we wanted to add to the workscope while everything was opened up. Todd was very accommodating and gave us reasonable prices for each addition we threw his way. We appreciated his flexibility very much. Todd also helped us with various design considerations, and had some great ideas that helped us work with the engineer to get the upstairs beams laid out in a way that optimized our new space. He pays close attention to detail and worked hard to ensure we would be happy with the end result of the project. Overall Todd is a real pleasure to work with and we highly recommend him and the quality of his work."

"Initial calls for gut kitchen and adjacent bathroom renovation + removal of load bearing wall went well with Sabrina and Ray - they assured us they have done many similar projects in the area successfully and on time. From the many positive and detailed yelp/google/houzz/angi reviews that had great end result pictures, we were convinced to move forward. Sabrina turned around the estimate for labor and some materials allowance quickly along with separate helpful tiered pricing guidance PDFs for kitchen and bathroom finishes to be purchased separately. Tile guidance was a bit off and a few categories like vanity, counter, mirror, light fixture in bathroom and plumbing for kitchen were missing. Vendors showed us finishes across all price tiers so it took us an extra week to finalize selections. Unfortunately we were told this delayed the project by a month. We were asked to wait on the kitchen design until after the engineering work for removal of the load bearing wall and addition of shear walls. Since we had a choice on the location of the shear walls, we preferred to do the design in tandem. I used cabinets.com to create my own rendering of the kitchen layout we wanted and provided them the full dimensions. The day before the approved structural wall work was to begin they sent their own drawing which had the wrong wall locations. After talking to both David and Dayna we realized her and the designer were not brought up to speed on the engineering work. Dayna then setup a productive Zoom call with the designer directly and we got my drawing to be updated with a few suggestions and required spacing and panels. The biggest mistake in the project came from one of their subcontractors employees who removed the plastic cover over our basement sink and cleaned off tools and plaster in it clogging the drain. Bay State quickly sent the drywall guy back over to unclog it. The project took just under 4 months to complete. Bay State and their subcontractors apart from the sink issue did not cut corners, often went above and beyond, and completed top quality finishes. No up-charge on materials was another big positive. The actual work done by the plumber (Mr Fix-It), electrician (Marcus Quintino), tile guys, drywall guy, cabinets guys, floor guys, and painters (AJA Painting) was excellent and we are very happy with our new space. Marcio was the MVP of their team - always calm, listened attentively to our many questions, provided great suggestions, and constantly asked the subcontractors to clean up. If they forgot, he cleaned up himself. His wife also worked tirelessly all day cleaning up at the end of the project. Things constantly move around and change during construction and it was difficult to get a clear picture of the plan each day. Andreina and at the start Dayna heard from us every week and always answered the phone and tried their best to chase down answers from others and get us the latest information. The billing process is very straightforward and Andreina provided further detail on line items as needed. Jose was always positive and happy to pass along feedback from us to the office when he swung by. Sabrina provided helpful guidance at the start in choosing our cabinets, counters, and hardware. David continually helped move the project along and has ensured everything is to our liking while encouraging us to pass along any punch list items. I would recommend Bay State for their quality of work, integrity, and communication. My main constructive feedback is on the design process and keeping everyone in sync throughout the project on the latest information."

"Originally we had hired MA Design to renovate two of our bathrooms, one being a full gut renovation of our Master Bathroom in 2021. We had such a good experience working with MA Design for our Bathroom renovations that we just had them come back to complete two other large scale projects. A full Kitchen refresh as well as a brand new back yard which included new stone patio with propane fire pit, new trex deck with integrated lighting, and a fully screened in porch. This was a large amount of work (in a difficult space as our back yard is only accessible by stairs so all work must be done by hand) and we really weren’t sure on what we could fit in the area. Marc & Raquel walked us through the full design and gave us options to find what worked best for us, and we are thrilled with our results.
