"Mark and John showed up on time to evaluate the work I needed done. The job entailed: 1. Replacing front steps with Granite 2. re-pointing bricks on 4 corners of my home built in 1860 Unfortunately once the job started, we found out that the people who built the foundation used slate on top of the stone as a base and over the years the slate crumbled and the bricks in the corneers shifted thus becoming unstable. The solution, rebuild the base and reinforce the brick wall with reba. The job was done on time and for a fair price"

Customers say: Quick response

"These painters are excellent. They fit us into a tight schedule, did thorough careful work, cleaned up well, and noticed rotting wood on deck and expertly replaced it. They were very easy to work with, and we are very pleased with the job."

"Henry repaired both corners on both sets of stairs on my property he made it match the original design and also fixed the bottom of the steps. He fixed my landing making it more comfortable to get in and out of my home and also painted the entire steps after pressure washing everything. "H&M was not the lowest bid, but they did a high-quality job in the shortest amount of time. On one of Cape Cods 90 F degree days, they prepped and painted an unairconditioned 8X10' pantry with two colors and lots of fixed shelves. At the same time, part of the team prepped, painted and polyurethane an interior staircase. Will use them again."

"We had terrible damages to our roof from the recent storm, and needed it repaired urgently. Ice dams also needed to be cleared off to prevent further leaking and damages. I saw that this company had great reviews, when they reached out they made my repair and consultation urgent and withing 2 days my repairs were completed. quality products used, they were professional and made sure to show pictures and video of the before and after. It was a pleasure working with their team."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, to build a retaining wall, a permit is required. Similarly, any repairs or modifications to an existing retaining wall require permits. If the planned wall measures higher than 4 feet, most municipalities require designs and permits come through a licensed engineer. In some locations, if the wall is shorter than 4 feet, a permit may not be required. For the requirements in your area, contact your local government.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Each design is different, so we can’t say definitively if you’ll need a dedicated drainage system in place for a two-foot retaining wall. However, you can likely skip the drainage, as this project is typically served for walls that are 4 feet tall or more. Even with a relatively low wall, consider drainage if you are building on top of clay or poor-draining soil types or if there are buried water sources nearby, like a well used for other outdoor garden projects.

Yes, including patterns, finishes, and plant integration for aesthetic enhancement.

Generally speaking, a retaining wall should be between 3 and 4 feet high, depending on variables such as the wall-building material, the purpose of the retaining wall, and more. If you want your retaining wall to be taller than 4 feet, check with your local building ordinance office for the maximum allotment. You may also need a special permit for retaining walls over 4 feet tall.
