"I needed to replace the front steps because they were pulling away from the foundation. I received several quotes and Republic Masonry (Henry) came in with a budget friendly price. Henry and his co-worker were professional and very detail oriented and cleaned up when the job was complete. The stairs look wonderful! I would highly recommend Republic Masonry (Henry) for all your cement projects. Kathy Faye"

"I recently had my shingle roof replaced and I?m very happy with the results. The team was professional, punctual, and completed the job efficiently. The quality of the work is excellent, and the new roof looks great. They kept the work area clean and communicated well throughout the process. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing a roof replacement."

"Jake was very professional and easy to work with as far as scheduling, etc. We had a patio resurfaced. It looks 1000 times better than before. The crew was efficient and left the work area clean each time they were here. They were careful and examined the work after each step. They decided to redo part of the patio because the base coat didn't adhere properly -- they did this without being asked. Overall, they did a very good job; a little disappointed that they couldn't level minor (less than 1/4") depressions in the concrete where water puddles after it rains, but they told me at the outset that they couldn't do that. It wasn't cheap to hire them, but after watching the work that they put in, I feel that I got my money's worth!"

"Ben Grant (BG Foundation) was recommended to me by my former mason because I had cracks in my foundation that were letting in a lot of water. He repaired two areas for me during his first visit (one was a newly found issue, and the second had plagued me for years) and, on a subsequent visit, a third area that I was discovered after the first repair. He responded quickly and professionally to my calls, requested pictures of the damaged area(s) to assess the job, followed up with a quote and explanation promptly, and then completed the job to perfection in one visit. He was on time for each appointment and wasted no time getting the work done. He even left the area cleaner than he found it. Even better, his work came with a 10-year guarantee AND, after the first few rainy days, HE reached out to ME to see if the repair was holding up. In case you're wondering, his repairs haven't let in any water at all despite days of heavy rain. He provides such an exceptional quality of service and workmanship that I regret not calling him sooner. His prices are fair, his work is guaranteed, and I'm no longer lugging around soaked towels and dealing with a smelly basement. I highly recommend BG Foundation."

"This was honestly a huge success story, I just started asking 'D' about the idea of putting in a walkway and within minutes he gave me an offer I couldn't refuse. 24 hours later he showed up raring to go. 12 hours of work later I have this amazing walkway. D was prompt, professional, and clean. The walkway is now the highlight of my back yard. I've uploaded two pictures, mid-way through the work and the completed work. I'm so glad we got this done and I'm glad we went with Schezer Excavation. Thanks again D!"

Concrete Resurfacing questions, answered by experts

Stamped concrete is durable and relatively easy to maintain. Regular maintenance includes sweeping away debris to keep it clean and prevent staining. It is also important to repair any cracks promptly to maintain its appearance and longevity. The concrete should be resealed every 2 to 4 years to protect the surface.

No, hairline cracks in concrete are generally not a problem as they do not impact the strength and longevity of the concrete. Generally, cracks less than 0.3 millimeter wide don’t impact the structure. Hairline cracks can grow over time and weaken the structure, such as in a home foundation. Some hairline cracks can also cause leaks in a foundation. It’s important to watch the cracks to see if they grow. Contact a concrete contractor if you notice cracks exceeding 0.3 millimeter wide.

If your cement garage floor is sinking and cracking, your first step should be to call a local structural engineer to assess the problem. They can determine if it’s a minor amount of sinking related to normal settlement or if the issue is structural in nature. If you do have structural damage, the engineer or a foundation repair company that you hire will come up with a plan to fix the issue, which often consists of mudjacking for less severe issues or underpinning for more extensive problems.

To determine the cost of your repair, calculate the square footage of the job and determine the extent of the damage to decide the best route for your project. Then, decide if you will be using standard concrete or an upgraded design. Obtain multiple quotes from reputable contractors to compare sidewalk repair cost estimates.

Yes, adding a patio or other concrete feature can increase your property taxes, particularly if it's considered a permanent improvement. The general rule is that if the project requires a permit, your property taxes will likely go up.

Permanent structures like a poured concrete patio are considered capital improvements that require a permit, which will trigger a reassessment of your property's value. Other concrete projects that typically increase taxes include:

  • Pool decks

  • Walkways

  • Driveways

  • Steps

  • Foundations

In contrast, 'temporary' installations, such as a paver or flagstone patio, may not require a permit and are less likely to affect your property taxes.

Permit costs for a concrete patio can range from $75 to $200. While the tax increase varies based on your location and the project's size, it is often a minimal amount. Always contact your local building department before starting a project to confirm permit requirements and any potential impact on your taxes.
