They basically laughed at the price quote the other contractor had given us and had the fan installed and everything cleaned up in less than two hours. It's been a while, but if I recall correctly they went ahead and installed a couple of extra electrical outlets in our basement for us while they were there. Even with the extra work, they were done hours ahead of schedule, and I don't feel the least bit ripped off-- efficiency is awesome, and they were wonderful.

"It all went very well.  This was a highly unconventional job, and John Mason figured out how to make everything work.  He is smart and creative -- thinks like an engineer.  He and his three assistants showed up when they said they would, worked steadily and well, and got the whole job done in 2 weeks, considerably faster than I had expected.  Several others who I contacted from Angie's List declined to bid because the job was too complicated for them.  One strongly suggested doing it without a building permit, and even at that made a considerably higher bid than John did.  John did the whole thing by the rules and there was no problem with building department approval.
We were so pleased with the job that we had them come back and do another much smaller job a couple of weeks later.
