"Todd and Ian did a wonderful job - removing one set of concrete stairs and pointing up another set of stairs. On time, stuck to the job, very professional. I will definitely hire S&S again - many thanks."

"J&E Landscaping was very responsive, professional and punctual. Their pricing was fair and I would hire them again. I had an over abundance of leaves blown over from the town park, and J&E cleaned-up every single leaf. But because the town has not cleaned up the park leaves that have fallen, I need to have J&E Landscaping come out one more time, before the snow falls. Thank you for great service Mr. Garcia."

"H&H has been doing our plowing/snow removal for several years. When I first reached out to Justin with questions, I was impressed with how articulate, professional, and personable he was. I knew he was a young man because he had gone to Natick high around the same time as my children, so I was doubly impressed. That has not changed over the years, though most of my communications now are with Lauren, who is impressive in her own right! I don’t live here during the winter, but I rely on Justin and his team to take care of plowing and shoveling our walkways as usual. It’s always been perfect. I should mention that our driveway is not easy as it’s on a hill and snow must be dragged to the bottom. Plus the rock wall on the side means it’s impossible to plow completely and must be finished with a shovel at the garage bays. Not an easy assignment, but as I said, it’s always perfect!"

"We had a large pile of Beulah disposal. Pablo showed up when he said he would, removed the brush, and raked the area. He was professional and we would ue them again."

"Had Henry remove a 12-15 inch thick 5x5 slab of concrete that needed to be removed. He showed up very quickly and knocked it out in a few hours with cleanup and haul away. Very professional and keeps you updated the whole time. Highly recommend."

"Roberto’s did a fantastic job! I would highly recommend them. They were responsive and even came by on the same day to review the project. Jose was attentive to our wishes and made some insightful suggestions that we absolutely agreed with. His team came the very next day to remove the grass that had died during our exterior remodel. They thoroughly prepared the yard and took care not to disturb our existing plants. They approached the work thoughtfully and carefully. They then came back and did a masterful job of installing sod, cobblestone edging, and gravel installation into our planter beds. The yard looks amazing and we were thrilled with their work. I’d definitely bring them back to do any further work needed."

"The quality of work completed was good given the amount of snow. Timing of work completed was not consistent. I was never quite sure if they were coming back to complete another round and many times I ended up having to shovel my own walkway and steps. And, then they would show up at 7PM (too late). Workers were a little unclear as to what was included in our snow removal contract. Sometimes not all the work was completed. My guess is that any snow removal company would have had similar issues based on the volume and frequency of snow this past year."

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

Before firing up your snowblower, ensure that essential switches are in the correct starting position. Take a moment to double-check the throttle, fuel shut-off, and choke, ensuring they're firmly set to the "on" position. Precision in verifying each switch's alignment is crucial, so don't rush through this critical step.

DIY snow removal is entirely free, except for the cost of a shovel. However, it may not always be the best option for large driveways and areas with heavy snowfall; it’s strenuous work and can take a long time. Other wallet-friendly ways to remove snow include rock salt, hot water, a de-icing agent, or a leaf blower.

Removing snow from your roof can help prevent ice dams, but the best thing to do is address insulation issues in your attic. If you do decide to remove the snow manually, you should always use a roof rake rather than a shovel. You shouldn’t climb your snowy roof in any circumstance, and roof rake allows you to remove the snow from the ground or a ladder. For the best results, remove snow as soon as possible after it falls.

In most cases, it is best to leave icicles on your roof and allow them to melt naturally. You should only remove them if they are heavy enough to cause damage to your home or pose a safety risk to people below. Attempting to remove icicles yourself can be dangerous, so if you are concerned about immediate damage, it is recommended to hire a professional. To prevent icicles from recurring, you should address the underlying cause, which is often poor insulation. Long-term solutions include improving your home's insulation or installing roof heating coils.

There are several ways to remove snow from your roof: using a snow rake, salting the roof with calcium chloride, using a rope (cautiously), and using heating cables. It’s important to mention that pretty, fluffy, sparkling snow weighs a great deal, and when physically removing snow from a roof, you should be aware of large snow slabs breaking off. These can weigh hundreds of pounds and are a real danger, so be extremely careful anytime you’re doing this type of work.
