Small jobs welcome

"Bob and Benny are hard working, experienced and pleasant gardeners. They efficiently transformed our post renovation, truck tire ransacked back yard into a lovely space of various bushes and plants finished off with an emerging lush green lawn. Well done."

"My husband, who generally does our yard work himself was unable to do it this year so via Angis List Silvas Greenscape was recommended and we could not be happier with their work. They did an excellent job in removing the leaves and other debris from the lawn as well as cleaning the gutters. The customer service we received by Selena was excellent as well. Selena is very professional, respectful, personable, and responds to any questions in a prompt manner. We would definitely hire them again!"

Customers say: Quality work

"They are an excellent company and they have done numerous projects here in my neighborhood. The guy who comes out is great and I have no complaints at all about him. He is fabulous and if you have a problem, he comes right away. He returns all your phone calls if there is an issue with the sprinkler system. I have had no problem with him at all. He is excellent overall. He also put our sprinkler system in a couple of years ago. I cannot say enough about him and he has a fabulous pricing. The quality of his work is great and he has a two-year warranty on all the sprinkler heads. His responsiveness is excellent. If I leave him a message, he calls me right back. I have never really had to say that he was going to come out at a certain time and he showed up but when I have left him a message, he has called and he has gone right out. Because he has a lot of customers in my neighborhood and he lives in Princeton so instead of me saying, "Okay, I want you to come out today," if it is no emergency, I always just tell him, "Look, if you are in the area turning the sprinklers on for the other people, stop by," so that he does not have to make a special trip. His professionalism is also excellent. I would absolutely use him again in the future and I actually just referred him to a new neighbor who is building a house just down the street from me. He asked me if I knew of any sprinkler guys and I said, "Oh yeah! The irrigation guy that I use is excellent." So, I gave him his card."

Lawns questions, answered by experts

Leaf removal, aeration, dethatching, mowing, pruning, and fertilizing are activities that prepare lawns for the next season.

Depending on the method you choose to remove grass, it may or may not matter whether the grass is wet or dry when you perform the task. A dryer lawn will be easier to negotiate with a sod cutter, especially if you're not planning to reuse the turf. However, using a shovel by hand might be a little easier if the ground is slightly damp but not so much that it sticks to the tool.

Pulling weeds once per month is typically often enough to keep most weeds at bay. But in general, it's best to pull weeds as soon as you spot them to prevent deep root growth and slow their spread. To make it easier, plan your weed pulling after rain or after the sprinklers run so the soil will be nice and wet and the weeds will be easier to pull. If you notice moss accompanying weeds, make a plan to remove the moss immediately to prevent damage.

No. Unfortunately, leaf removal is your responsibility, no matter what tree the leaves come from. It would be pretty hard to regulate leaves since they can be moved by the wind or water. Imagine the detective skills it would take to determine which tree each leaf came from and who was then liable for removing it. Instead, plan to remove any leaves on your property.

There are several ways to decompose yard waste quickly. The first step is to move all debris into a compost bin or pile. From there, microorganisms, bacteria, and insects will break down the yard waste into compost. To speed things up, shred the waste into smaller pieces, add live worms to the pile, or introduce nitrogen-rich compost accelerators like grass clippings, coffee grounds, and manure. Turn the compost over every few days. This process, called aerating, allows oxygen to get in and accelerate decomposition.
