"Eli is a talented appliance repairman. He came right over when we called and worked diligently to fix my washing machine which was locked with the damp clothes inside. After liberating my laundry he pursued a rational progression from simplest possible cause to more complex until he solved the issue. He was unfailingly positive and communicated the progress clearly throughout the process. While it took more than one visit to fix the machine as he had to order parts (which amazingly came in quite quickly) I was confident that he would get to the bottom of it. I was very pleased with how reasonable the charge for the service was considering the time and materials it took and will definitely give him a call if any other appliance breaks. He is a one in a million find!"

Small jobs welcome

"Josh was the first to respond on Angies list and came right out to check out the job. I was on a time crunch to get it done so he was able to squeeze me in that week. Showed up right on time ready to go. Did a great job and cleaned up afterwards. I plan on using Josh for future projects!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The simplest indicator is how long it’s been since your last tune-up. You should schedule an annual AC tune-up each spring. Beyond that, there are multiple signs that your AC needs a quick check by a professional. These issues include higher-than-average energy bills, decreased air flow from vents, higher indoor temperatures, and an air conditioning unit that stays on all the time or frequently turns on and off.

The right type of HVAC system will depend on several factors, including your climate, budget, preferences, and existing HVAC setup. For example, if you live in an area that experiences extreme weather, then a split system would likely be the best option. Or, if budget is a concern, consider installing a ductless system in just one room.

A 3-ton AC unit is probably too big for a home that’s 1,200 square feet. If you have a 1,200-square-foot home, you likely need a unit that’s somewhere around 1.9 and 2 tons. An AC unit that’s too large will be really inefficient and cost you a lot of extra money on your bills.

While all portable AC units will collect moisture as part of their cooling and dehumidifying process, whether and how often you need to drain them depends on what kind of unit you have and the natural humidity levels where you live. For example, if you live in a very dry area and have a self-evaporating unit, you may not need to drain your portable AC very often at all. Some units may automatically drain collected moisture out the window through their exhaust vent.

There are plenty of different not-so-great sounds to hear from your air conditioning unit, like squealing, grinding, water running, excessive gurgling, banging, and clanking. Each of these sounds can indicate a different malfunction with your unit, so it’s important to have a professional assess the problem before it gets worse.
