Black Dog Inspections provides Complete Radon Services and is an AARST-NRPP Certified Residential Radon Mitigation and Certified Measurement provider for independent verification of radon mitigation efforts, radon measurements for businesses, the home buyer or the home owner. Radon supplies can be purchased. Billing on completion of work unless prior arrangements have been identified. Alternative email: [email protected].

"Black Dog clearly explained the radon problem in the house and the proposed mitigation plan. He was professional, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to deal with. We explained to Eino Anttila our concerns about having the high radon levels while our infant grandchild would be visiting from out of state and he went above and beyond to install the mitigation system before they arrived. He was able to reduce the high radon level to an acceptable level. He even monitored the mitigation system in our house while he was on vacation out of state and sent us reports. We highly recommend Black Dog Inspections."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

It's essential to use insulation materials specifically designed for air ducts. Common types of duct insulation materials include fiberglass, foam board, and reflective foil. These insulation materials have the right properties to withstand the temperature and airflow conditions within the ductwork. Using the appropriate insulation not only ensures efficient temperature control but also prevents potential safety hazards or the release of harmful particles into the air.

Chimney liners often benefit from insulation, though it is not always required. Insulation helps improve the liner's efficiency by keeping flue gasses hotter, which enhances draft and reduces creosote buildup. It also prevents condensation, which can lead to corrosion. Insulation is important for chimneys on exterior walls or in colder climates. Some building codes may require insulation, so checking local regulations is essential.

Insulating under a concrete slab foundation is a great way to improve the energy efficiency of your home, but it isn't necessary for outdoor projects like driveways, patios, sidewalks, and walkways. If you’re pouring in cold weather, insulating under the slab can help prevent heat loss from the concrete, aiding in proper curing. Along with accelerants, this can be a good way to ensure strong concrete despite pouring in the cold.

The benefits of insulating your pipes include preventing freezing, sweating, and condensation. In addition, insulating your pipes can make your home more energy-efficient by keeping your pipes from losing or gaining heat. You’ll be able to turn the temperature of your water heater down by two to four degrees Fahrenheit. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, this can reduce energy costs by 3% to 4% per year.

Costs depend on the type of insulation, area to be covered, and labor, generally ranging from $1 to $4 per square foot.
