Customers say: Quality work

"Garden’s by the Yard (GbtY) was great! Leisha, the owner and designer, was incredibly helpful through the whole process. She’s an engineer by training and very knowledgeable about plants and hardscape. Her employees were courteous, diligent and cleaned-up after themselves. We also met her mason, Cartegiane, who we thought was fantastic. We bought our house last year and the previous owner had bricked-in a large portion of the backyard (it wasn’t the most thought-out utilization of space). Before reaching out to GbtY, we searched for local landscape architects via Angie’s list and we were drawn to GbtY’s portfolio. During Leisha’s first visit, we walked our property discussing our likes and dislikes. Shortly afterwards, she developed a design and we worked through several iterations balancing aesthetics with budget. GbtY uses OneNote to upload designs and track all project-related progress, which we found very useful in tracking ideas, phases, and payments. Once we settled on a design, Leisha also provided a CAD video that helped us get a sense of the space. It took a couple of months of design and scheduling before GbtY dismantled the old patio. In hindsight, we should have placed our deposit earlier to get scheduled quicker. Leisha understandably operates on a first-come-first-served basis. As the work progressed, we were in constant communication via emails, texts, and calls about the on-going work and any changes in design. In addition to the patio and garden design, both Leisha and Cartesian helped us mitigate some basement water issues by fixing our egress windows and installing a drainage system against the house. We were very impressed with the flexibility of the team while keeping aligned with our budget (we were a little crazy about our budget). Leisha would even suggest items and tasks that we could do ourselves in order to cut costs. When the final invoice arrived, Leisha graciously sat-down and went over each line-item. We are very detailed-oriented people and this was hugely appreciated. In the end (of this phase at least because we will go back with her in the spring to finish the front yard), we were a little over budget. However, the fact that our backyard is BEAUTIFUL makes it well worth it! Our neighbors constantly tell us how wonderful it looks as we water our garden and maintain our new lawn."

"Stone & Garden Solutions installed our sod and new patio and they did a fantastic job with both! The work done was outstanding with incredible attention to detail. Marlon and crew were great to work with and quick to respond to every question. Marlon was very knowledgeable and detailed, he was quick to provide samples, suggestions and/or ideas on how to deal with different issues our backyard had. We had such a great experience with Stone & Garden Solutions we would definitely recommend them to anyone in need of this type of work."

"My wife and I hired Chris to complete a patio install with a square fire pit in the middle. After choosing a design and different pavers from different manufacturers Chris was able to obtain all the needed materials and did a fantastic job."

Patios questions, answered by experts

The average cost to enclose a patio to create a sunroom is around $5,000, and prices generally range from $3,000 up to $10,000. The price you pay will depend on the state of your patio and whether it needs repairs or additional structural support, the quality of the materials you choose, the size of your patio, and whether you plan to run utilities into and finish the sunroom. The price for a fully finished patio enclosure could run up to around $20,000, while you might pay just $2,500 for a screened-in porch.

Yes, porches require foundations. The type of foundation required, however, is determined by the type and use of the porch. For example, a screened-in porch won’t require a new cement foundation. However, if you turn your porch into a sunroom or plan on making it a living space, then chances are you need a foundation that’s more permanent than piers and posts.

Prefab kits like a small sunroom for around $20,000 or even a basic gazebo roof for as little as $60 can save you big over professional installation. However, you lose the option for customization, and these structures tend not to last nearly as long. As for bigger projects like a deck or patio, you shouldn’t go with the DIY route unless you’re fully prepped with the tools and know-how to get it done right. Mistakes can be frustrating and costly, so choose a pro if you’re looking to eliminate your risk of error.

Yes, enclosing a patio to create a sunroom or three-season room is often a good idea that adds value to your home. This project increases your home's usable square footage and creates a versatile space for relaxing or entertaining that is filled with natural light and can be used in various weather conditions. Homeowners may see an average return on investment (ROI) of around 70%. The final value added will depend on factors such as the quality of the materials, the level of finish, and the amount of yard space that remains after the enclosure.

A covered deck can be a good investment that increases your home value—especially if you live in a hot region with a lot of sun. A covering over the deck means you can get more use out of it, even on the hottest summer days. With a permanent deck covering, you can even add ceiling fans to help cool down your deck for added comfort.
