"Cosme and his crew work very hard and will work with your schedule. They installed composite decking and railing to an existing deck substructure (footings, frame struts, etc.) that required reinforcement to stabilize the deck. We also requested solar post lighting, which really enhances the nighttime looks of our new deck. They clean up after each day of work and offered valuable information to help us decide what was needed to have the deck that we wanted while staying within our budget. I would recommend DC Carpentry LLC without hesitation, to my friends and family!"

"Arrived at the time stated. Professional in all aspects, detailed, explained how and why he was going to perform the service and made recommendations at no additional cost. So good that I have lined up an additional and different service than the one that he was engaged to perform initially. Great job and exceeded all expectations 👍🏻"

Customers say: True professional

"He was able to pull his truck into a difficult driveway Cut down all my trees And Take everything away. This investment pays for itself. Raking leaves every year is costly. All that's left to do is to pave it all so that nothing grows out of the ground ever again."

"I am a regular customer of this company. The do my spring cleanup, fall cleanup, trim, mulching, and lawn maintenance. I am always amazed at how great the yard looks after they are done. They keep the edges sharp and provide the little extras that other companies do not. They show up on time, are professional and thorough. If you want a great looking yard for a reasonable price, hire this company. Their work is excellent."

"I went to The Geek Squad and Office Max, not only were their prices absolutely insane, but even with a consult they were not able to repair my computer issue ....DRP Handymen were prompt, professional and fixed my computer for WAY less than I imagined, Ive already started speaking to DRP regarding other projects in my home- I will most certainly hire DRP again"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.

The overhang, or nosing, of deck steps is another area that will be covered in building code requirements. The noses on your deck steps should have a minimum overhang of ¾ inch. For safety, usability, and code compliance, the nosing of deck steps should not extend past 1¼ inches.

Composite decking requires a solid foundation, substructure, or subframe to ensure stability. This base is typically composed of posts, beams, joists, and footings. The frame's joists can be built from various materials like composite, plastic, timber, or metal, as long as the base can support the deck's weight without shifting. A professional deck builder might recommend installing the frame on a solid concrete base for added durability. The final design and materials for the substructure will depend on your budget, the type of deck, and environmental conditions.

Choices include wood, composite, and hardwoods, each with unique benefits.

Yes, an elevated deck can increase a home's resale value. Homeowners can expect a 65% return on investment from the cost of a second-story deck installation. For example, if you spend $5,000 to install a second-story deck, that deck will add $3,250 to the value of your home.
