"Overall extraordinary experience and exceptional craftsmanship with meticulous attention to detail from project beginning through the punch list. Cool, calm and thoughtful demeanor displayed by Ryan throughout project that was also projected from every one of the sub-contractors. A reflection of good leadership that speaks volumes of the overall team and the high quality expectations of not just the work itself but also the customer experience. The positive approach and "can-do" attitude at every turn of the project was refreshing and very much appreciated! The exceptional detail and craftsmanship coupled with the positive energy throughout made this a thoroughly enjoyable experience--even through very stressful times! Would definitely hire again and recommend to friends and family. Call Ryan Norman for your next project--you won't be disappointed!!"

"I was buying a new house, the home inspector had some questions about the attic joists and suggested I have a professional take a look at them. I needed it done quickly and I called three contractors. Matt from MMP was the only one that called me back the same day and agreed to come look at them the next day. He showed up on time, suggested a remedy and gave me an estimate. After buying the house I had him complete the work. It was done as promised in a very tight and dirty attic space, they cleaned up before leaving. I also chose Matt to replace my roof after getting three estimates. The crew did the complete job, chimney flashing, ice and water shield, small roof repair and venting channels in the attic. Clean up was great, no mess left in the yard. He was not the lowest estimate but all the work was done without any additional charges. I was very pleased with the results."

"Peter was quick to respond, gave a fair quote, and communicate with me throughout the process. Because of bad weather, he had to arrive at my home one hour later than planned, but call early in the morning to let me know. When was the last time a contractor did that? The work was completed exactly as promised. Could not be happier! Will be using him again and would HIGHLY recommend him to others."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.

One of the most common house framing basics for decades has been using wood for the framing work. However, some framing contractors now suggest using steel frames. Steel is lightweight, resistant to fire, and resistant to moisture, all of which are areas where wood framing could cause problems. However, steel framing is more expensive than wood and limits your ability to insulate the home.

Metal stud framing parts include the studs themselves, upper and lower tracks that act as top and bottom wall plates, various angle fasteners and clips, screws for fastening pieces togeher, metal straps, c-channel supports, and thicker steel supporting structures. Roof framing metal components include pre-fabricated trusses, heavy-gauge stud pieces, and various plates and fasteners.

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.
