We are a full service construction company with two generations of experience working to exceed your expectations

"Would not recommend. Verbal quote: $10-12k Written estimate: $16.8k Actual amount paid: $18,875 Cost overages came largely from design changes that Ken suggested, but did not inform us of cost differentials. Other overages came from "surprises" to the design; all of which were laid out before the job was ever quoted. The real issue is that he told us it would be a four week job. It took FIVE MONTHS. We lost weeks to Ken's personal move, Ken being sick, his helper being sick, failed inspections, subcontractors not showing up for inspections, and numerous shoddy building details that had to be redone. It's been a few months since I thought this was in the rear view, except I just found out that Ken never finished the permitting process with the city. Still waiting to see what's involved with fixing this mess. Oh, and grout and tiles are already falling off :)"

T. Dawson Architecture has been in business since 2004, in Hopkinton, MA, home of The Boston Marathon, and part of Boston's MetroWest Area. Hopkinton borders the Interstate 495 and Rt. 9 business cooridors, as well as being a spacious residential community of New England, and Massachusetts. Thomas A. Dawson, AIA, LEED AP, as sole-proprietor and founder of the architectural firm, specializes in responsive and site- sensitive design, in both residential and commercial applications. The firm prides itself on the ability to listen to clients' needs and aspirations, creatively blending design with appropriate and possible sustainable (green) solutions, to aid in the task of problem-solving on any architectural project. In Residential circles, Tom has a vast portfolio of both designed and built residential homes, additions, renovations, etc. Many GC-General Contractors have commented positively on TDA's knowledge of the construction process, accuracy of it's construction documents, and the principal's ability and availability to solve problems in the field, either before or during construction. TDA's start was with residential clientele, in 2004. In the Commercial arena, Tom has recently successfully completed several design projects for Parsons Commercial Group, in Framingham, MA, for both the commercial real estate brokerage firm itself, and it's tenants, potential lease-holders, etc. Last year (2010), with the completion of a large exterior mall facelift project in Bellingham, MA, much to the pleasing of the Owner, TDA has been able to gain momentum in the commercial real estate sectors, providing architectural services, code review, client-contact and consulting, etc., leading to a growing commercial client base. What can TDA do to help your company today!? Thomas A. Dawson, AIA, LEED AP is a Massachusetts state-registered architect, reg. #20327 (design professional), a member of the AIA - American Institute of Architects, and a LEED AP, or LEED 2.0 accredited professional. LEED is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, a program initiated by the USGBC, or United States Green Building Council. Tom has worked for several architectural firms in Boston and surrounding towns and suburbs, since entering the profession in 1986. Tom has a B ARCH degree from The Boston Architectural Center (now College), 1993. In addition to being a crazy-avid recycler, dog lover, passive environmentalist (I don't plug factory outfalls in small boats owned by GreenPeace), outdoor enthusiast, downhill and XC mountain biker, snowboarder, and skier, Tom is an Eagle Scout, and has also been a Scout Master for one of two BSA - Boy Scouts of America troops in Hopkinton, MA. Tom and his son, Drew, also have an affinity for Ford Motor Company, and all things cars and basically anything with wheels. Tom is lucky to also have a daughter, Sydney, and a beautiful, professional, and supportive wife, Lee. Oh, and please do not forget our beloved Golden Retriever, Tucker! Thanks for taking the time to read this. We appreciate it.

FAQs for solar panel service projects in Boston, MA

The average cost to install solar panels is around $26,600, and most homeowners pay between $4,500 and $53,000. Keep in mind that these prices don’t consider the federal investment tax credit (ITC), which can effectively reduce those costs by up to 30%. The price you can expect to pay for solar panel installation depends on the size of the system, where you live, the type and brand of panels, and the labor costs. Get price quotes from at least three solar companies in your area to find the best deal.

In most states, solar installers need to be licensed and insured as solar professionals, although some states don’t have specific requirements for installers. You can use our state licensing tool to check if an installer you’re considering hiring holds the proper licensing. No matter where you live, a member of your solar panel installation company must be a certified electrician to connect your panels to your home and the electric grid.

There are a few qualifying questions you should ask a local solar panel company before hiring them:

  • Will you handle permits for the installation?

  • Does your total price include the equipment and labor?

  • How long do you expect the installation process to take?

  • What kind of workmanship warranty do you include with your installations?

  • Who should I contact if I have a problem with my system after installation?

  • Do you install the panels or outsource the work to third parties?

  • Will you file for solar incentives for me?

In most cases, yes, solar panels are well worth the investment. Going solar with your home’s energy is expensive, but, in most states, the panels will pay for themselves by reducing your electric bills. Solar panels don’t produce greenhouse gasses or other pollutants, meaning you can feel good about using this renewable energy source to power your home. Plus, installing solar panels can boost your home value, helping your profit off your next home sale.

Yes, solar panel installation will require permits. The required permits will depend on where you live, as some states and cities have solar-specific permits, while others only require electrical permits to connect to the grid. In either case, it’s best to hire a reputable solar installer in your area, as a representative should handle all of the necessary permitting for you and will include the cost of the permits in your initial solar estimate.
