No project is too small. If you need something fixed, something moved, something installed, to you it isn’t too small of a project. You wouldn’t call a carpenter to fix a loose door hinge, you’d call a HANDYMAN. You wouldn’t call an electrician to install that new ceiling fan, you’d call a HANDYMAN. You’ll either need to contact your local building department or your septic tank company to ask if this is necessary before carrying out the work. Permits are not typically required to have your septic tank pumped, so provided your septic company is licensed, you can move forward with the work as needed.

It is not normal to smell your septic outside and indicates a problem such as an unsealed manhole or access lid, a clogged septic line, a faulty vent stack, or the need for a septic tank pumping. If sewage is leaking from your septic system, it can be hazardous to you, your family, pets, and the surrounding environment.
