"The electrician arrived, assessed the job and immediately went to work. The job was done quickly and he even took all the old wiring around to the trash can on the other side of my house. The total cost for the trip and labor was $140.00, but I only had to pay $95.00 because I had a coupon from Angie’s List. I will definitely use this company again."

"We are repairing our house after the August 2016 flood. We found Ryan Hord through Angie's List and were a bit nervous about hiring someone without any personal recommendations. Overall we had a very positive experience with Ryan. He was quick to come out to give us a quote on installing trim. After talking a short while we realized he could do a number of other jobs as well. While it did ultimately take longer than originally projected, we are very happy with the results. His work is neat and professional; he was concerned with the aesthetic appeal of the final result. We had a lot of back and forth getting the right paperwork etc to our mortgage company, Ryan was accommodating and helpful getting everything we needed. After he finished, we noticed something that was skipped. Ryan was prompt to come back and fix it. We are very pleased with our experience working with Ryan and are thrilled with the work he did in our home."

"I recently worked with CDM Electric LLC for electrical projects in my home, and I cannot speak highly enough of their professionalism, expertise, dedication to safety, quick work, and cost effectiveness. I recommend them to anyone in need of electrical work. First, their installation of ceiling fans was flawless. They ensured that each fan was installed securely and functioning perfectly. Additionally, CDM Electric identified and rectified significant fire hazards related to outdated electrical outlets throughout my house. Their quick replacement (1 Day) of all outlets ensures the safety of my home. Their expertise extended to the installation of chandeliers, bathroom lighting and heaters/vents. All work perfectly. They then installed a surge protector in the main electrical box. This protects and insures financially all electrical devices and appliances against power surges and resulting damage. I am confident CDM Electric will exceed your expectations as they did mine."

Chandelier Installation questions, answered by experts

This is definitely a matter of personal taste, but certain spaces might be better suited to recessed lighting than others. Areas where you need good task lighting, such as the laundry room, kitchen, or home office could be good candidates for recessed LED lighting. You also might choose to use it for a sleek, subtle lighting option in a living room where you want to highlight other aspects of the space.

In many cases, installing or replacing a light fixture on your own is a reasonable afternoon DIY job, and you can easily learn how to install a light fixture yourself. If the light fixture requires new switches, cuts into your drywall or ceiling, new wiring, or any other more complex task, it might be worth calling a local contractor who has the right knowledge and expertise.

There are a variety of hooks available you can use to hang your Christmas lights on concrete without drilling unsightly holes. Attaching hooks on gutters or using construction adhesive in a caulk gun are two options that work very well for getting hooks to stay up all season.

The installation cost for a light fixture varies depending on its type. While most installations require a professional, the complexity and price can differ. Here are some common light fixture types and their typical installation costs:

  • Ceiling-mounted fixtures: $90–$230

  • Chandeliers: $300–$2,000

  • Fluorescent lights: $85–$220

  • Light bars: $330–$440

  • Pendant lights: $95–$250

  • Recessed lights: $125–$230

  • Track lighting: $100–$250

  • Wall-mounted lights: $90–$250

Motion-sensor lights use one watt while on standby and five watts while turned on. They’re usually on for one hour over a 24-hour period, bringing the total wattage to about 28 watts per day. LED lights use around 6.5 to 8 watts while on. If you leave an LED light on all night, with night ranging from 10 to 14 hours, you’re looking at using 65 to 112 watts a night. You can minimally cut your wattage in half by switching to a motion-sensor light.
