Greetings My name is Allan Lawson and I do small engine repair. i can do almost (I do not weld) any repair on your riding/push lawn mower, weed eater, chainsaw and every other small engine you can think of:-) I can come pick up your equipment for a fee if need be or you can bring it to me. I live off Sherwood Forest/ South Harrels Ferry Road in Baton Rouge and do repairs in my shop in the evenings and on weekends. If you already have your parts and need me to change them, no problem. If you want me to get the parts, no problem. Oil changes, belt changes, anything and everything. I'm 51 years old, honest, and have been working on engines since I was 3 years old, literally. My dad bought me a lawn mower engine because I was a motor mouth VROOM! VROOM! and at that tender age I was able to take it apart (with a little help). My dad would put it back together and I would watch... It wasn't long before I was able to put it back together myself. I can and will charge you less than the shops (I'm told they are around $80.00 to $90.00 an hour minimum on some OUCH!!!) and we will both be happy. Call or text is best 225 364 6975. Get shop quality work without the wait or the price! Thank You for your business :-) Allan Lawn mower, lawnmower, weed eater, weedeater, zero turn mower, weed trimmer, blower, leaf blower, chainsaw, chain saw, self propelled mower, selfpropelled mower, hand held blower, tree trimmer, tiller, gravely, Husqvarna, Craftsman, MTD, Troybuilt, Troy Built, Honda, Kawasaki, John Deere, Johndeere, Dixon, Four stroke, two stroke, Riding Lawnmower, Riding Lawn mower, Ariens, Generator, Zero Turn Commercial, Tractor, 4 Stroke, 2 Stroke, Snapper, Yamaha, Suzuki, Ferris, Hustler, Exmark, Kubota, yardman, Yard Man , Used, New, Encore, Scagg, Scag, poulan, Murray,

Lawn Tool Repair questions, answered by experts

The American ideal of a large, perfectly-manicured lawn is tied to the post-World War II suburban housing boom. In the decades that followed, technological advances made self-propelled mowers more affordable and plentiful. Many Americans came to see reel mowers as old-fashioned, inconvenient, and time-consuming, and they eventually fell out of fashion.

Engine failure, clogged carburetors, dull blades, and electrical issues are common problems requiring service.

There are a few reasons why a lawn mower cord won’t pull, including an engine jam, a tangled cord, a broken recoil starter, or poor maintenance. To troubleshoot, turn the mower off. Then, inspect the cord, look for any tangles, and gently pull it to identify where the resistance starts. If you’re not seeing any obstructions, you may need to call in a professional for repairs.

Lawnmowers require seasonal maintenance to continue working correctly. With routine maintenance, you can extend its life to the fullest, which is around 10 years for push mowers and 5-8 years for riding mowers. To keep your lawn mower working correctly, you’ll want to take the following steps at least once a year:

  • Replace the spark plug

  • Change the oil

  • Drain the fuel tank

  • Clean the mowing deck (ideally, after every mow)

  • Replace the air filter

  • Check the carburetor

  • Sharpen the blades

  • Fog the engine

  • Check the tires

A standard home lawn mower with sharp blades can handle a thin layer of leaves without issue. You may need to make a couple of passes within several days to mulch leaves down, but your mower shouldn’t struggle. If your mower comes with a mulching kit, like an attachment to blow leaves out the side, that’s a good sign it’s ready for fall leaves. Set your mower to the highest or near-highest height for this project so it focuses on the leaves rather than the grass below.
