"The fence and gate look great and I feel much more secure. The old fence was poorly done (some post-Katrina work so I had to take what I could find) and did not secure my back yard and pool. Tony explained why the original fence was inadequate and why we needed to upgrade (to better wood and more cross pieces). It took a few weeks for him to get to my project but he kept me posted on what the time frame was likely to be. Once they committed, they were reliable and punctual and the job was completed in a couple of days. One note: you do have to pay extra to have the old fence hauled away which was not included in the original estimate. I decided I wanted a few upgrades from the original plan (including a combination lock for the gate so that I didn't have to give keys to anyone who needed to get into the backyard). I would also have had to pay extra to have them spray the fence with wood sealer but I decided that was a job that didn't take too much expertise so I'll have my son do it for me."

Customers say: Quality work

"We finally decided to look for someone to make repairs to our wooden fence that was damaged during hurricane Ida. After dealing with a few contractors that claimed my 5-year old fence needed to be replaced and not repaired, Speakeasy came by and said they can make the repairs. The repairs consisted of straightening about 10 4x4’s and replacing one that was snapped. The price to do this was outstanding just like their work ethic. They completed this work faster than expected without any issues. The work quality on these repairs is next to none. I would highly recommend Speakeasy Fencing for all your fencing needs big or small."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Clean regularly, inspect for damage, and seal or paint wooden fences to protect against weather.

Costs depend on material, labor, and additional features like gates or decorative elements.

Yes, in most places. A front yard fence is allowed by local zoning laws more often than not, but it always helps to check before building just to make sure. There may be restrictions around how tall the fence can be, what it can be made from, or where it can be built.

Knowing how close to the property line you can build a fence is an important planning step in your fence installation project. In many U.S. states, you are allowed to build a fence directly on the property line as long as your neighbor signs off on the plan. But check with your state government because some states and municipalities require a couple of inches before your property line.

A silt fence should be buried in a trench that is 6 to 12 inches deep. A depth of at least 6 to 8 inches is necessary to prevent water and sediment from running underneath the fence. A deeper trench, up to 12 inches, provides better anchoring during wet and windy weather. To ensure proper installation, look for a red line on the silt fence fabric, which often indicates the correct burial depth. Always adhere to local guidelines and regulations; a professional contractor will be familiar with these requirements.
