Rather than learning how to repaint a room in its entirety, you might want to touch up areas that are showing worn paint or damage. Learning how to match the paint color already on the walls can be challenging, though. How long your paint job lasts depends on the quality of the work and the type of paint used. If you clean the siding first, apply a primer if needed, and choose the right type of paint, the finish can last five to 10 years.

You can hide wallpaper seams when painting by applying joint compound over them and then sanding thoroughly until smooth. You’ll want to apply two layers of compound, allowing for four to eight hours between coats. Do a light sanding between coats and then after the final coat is dry. Once the compound dries completely, you can begin priming and painting the wall.

You may need to provide your own paint, depending on the agreement you make with the painter. Some painters prefer that you buy the paint and they supply the labor. However, some professional painters get a better price on paint and can pass that savings along to you even after accounting for labor costs.
