"If I could rate the wonderful company higher than a 5 star, I would. Shortly after requesting weeding and mulching service, I was contacted by Mike of Precision Ground Maintenance. He visited my home and gave me a fair free estimate for weeding and mulching our four plant and shrub beds totaling approx. 7' X 180'. Shortly after accepting the estimate, Precision staff began work clearing all weeds and spreading over 30 large bags of mulch. It turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year. They did a wonderful job, removing the pulled weeds in large trash bags making sure things were nice and neat before they departed. I highly and strongly recommend this company, and I will definitely use them again in the future. J.W. E. in Slidell, La."

Leaf Removal questions, answered by experts

By using PPE, sealing work areas, and following containment procedures.

The best disposal method for hazardous waste is to take it to a professional dumping facility that specializes in and accepts hazardous materials. These facilities will dispose of the materials in a way that is safe for both humans and the environment. If you don’t have access to a nearby facility, the best way to get rid of hazardous waste is to call a professional garbage removal company who handles disposing of hazardous materials .

You do not have to remove lead paint if the surface is not chipping or peeling or if there are no pregnant people or children under the age of six who live in or regularly visit your home. Lead paint is a particular risk for young children whose brains and bodies are not fully developed. Experts strongly recommend that you call a pro to remove lead paint if it’s peeling or flaking, no matter who lives in the home. You can experience lead poisoning by breathing in or ingesting just a small amount of it.

While not all homes built before 1978 contain lead paint, enough do, so you’ll still want to test to be on the safe side. The federal government banned lead-based paint for homes in 1978, but your state may have banned lead before that time. Around 24% of homes built between 1960 and 1977 contained lead-based paint, while 87% of homes built before 1940 contained lead-based paint.

Unfortunately, lead dust does not look different from any other type of dust. You cannot detect it with the naked eye. To determine if you have lead dust in your home, you will need to hire a local company to take a sample from the paint and test it for you in a lab.
