"The lady who sold the job doesn&#39t call back right away. They say they're coming and they don't show up. This happened 4 times. Instead of telling me they are behind with their jobs they lie about coming. When they show up the installers do a good job. They need to tell the truth about when they are coming."

"In order to install, they had to demo the old windows and re-create the openings to fit the new windows, as well as replace some siding. They did an excellent job, at a reasonable price for the amount of work it entailed."

"

My husband and I cannot say enough about how happy we are with the service and outcome of our yard.  We pride ourselves on doing things ourselves; however, when the owners of Fresh Cut showed us photos of their own backyard, we really started getting interested in hearing about what their ideas would be for our backyard.  They invited us to see their backyard in person so that we could compare size and proportions of yards and we absolutely fell in love with their yard.  We were originally only planning on doing landscaping around our pool but when we saw how, when looking at their yard, your eyes take you from the house to the complete back portion of their yard, we knew we wanted to do something very similar with our yard.  Upon walking out of their back door, their beautiful pergola, pavers and landscaping around them lead you to an eye-catching fire-pit and outdoor oasis. We already had a pool but they helped us map out a similar plan for the flow of our backyard.  The truly amazing part is how their work actually made our yard look so much bigger than it already was.  We started with just a pool and ended with a total transformation.  We get constant compliments on our yard and know that the investment will not only give us years of happiness, but it will also greatly increase our property value.  We are in the process of adding a separate paver area with fire-pit, landscaping, and outdoor furniture to increase our seating and to be able to fully enjoy our yard even during the cold months. Major or minor, I would definitely recommend Fresh Cut to anyone looking to beautify their yard.

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

The lifespan of a retaining wall varies based on its material, installation quality, maintenance, and local climate, with an average range of 20 to 100 years. Retaining walls made from durable materials like concrete, stone, and brick generally last a minimum of 50 years. Concrete walls typically last between 50 and 100 years, while brick can last for over a century in ideal conditions. Timber retaining walls can last from 20 to 40 years, depending on the wood quality, and pressure-treated wood walls average around 30 years. It is important to note that a retaining wall can fail prematurely if it was poorly constructed, for example, with inefficient footings or without necessary rebar reinforcements.

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.

Costs range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on size, material, and design complexity.

While vinyl is the least costly material for building a retaining wall, the most cost-effective method is to use wood or concrete blocks for a DIY retaining wall under 2 feet tall. Wood is inexpensive but lasts 20 years or more with care. Concrete can cost a little more but is stronger and will last longer with less maintenance.

With foundation walls, the slab on grade and force at the top of the wall is resisted by flooring. With retaining walls, the force at the top of the wall is not resisted.
