"Our hot water heater broke. We called elevated plumbing and he was at our house within a hour. We were interested in a tank less water heater. He was very knowledgeable and answered all our concerns. It was Friday when we called and he did the job the Monday. Great job and very professional. We will definitely recommend him to family and friends and will call when we need a plumber."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

You can stop a leak with plumber’s tape, but it’s not a recommended way to repair a leak. To install it, you have to dismantle the plumbing connection, apply plumber’s tape, and then re-install the pieces.

There are better options for a temporary fix for leaking pipes, such as repair sleeves, epoxy compounds, or pipe clamps.

A running toilet is not a plumbing emergency, but you will want to try some DIY fixes or call in a plumber to prevent wasting gallons of water. The three most common causes of a running toilet are a broken or dirty flapper, an incorrectly sized chain between the flush lever and flapper, or a float that is out of position.

Yes, a bigger well pump can increase water pressure—up to a point. If you currently have a well pump of 8 GPM, you might notice a pressure boost when you go up to 10 GPM. However, overshooting significantly (going up to 15 GPM for an 8 GPM home) can strain your well system and result in things like burst pipes that can decrease your water pressure and make for costly repairs.

Homeowners insurance often covers water leaks and resulting damage, but coverage depends on the cause. Leaks from sudden and accidental events, like a burst pipe or storm damage to a roof, are typically covered. However, if the leak is due to a lack of maintenance, homeowner negligence, or general wear and tear (such as an old roof failing), the claim will likely be denied. Some causes, like flooding or leaks from faulty appliances, may be excluded from standard policies. After taking steps to stop the leak, contact your insurance company immediately and review your specific plan to understand your coverage.

It is safe to flush the toilet even if the pipes are frozen, and this may even help clear out the pipes. But if the supply line is frozen, the toilet won’t refill itself until it’s thawed out. You can still flush by pouring water into the tank to refill it.
