Mr. Forest ran into trouble in that a stump for a very large water oak had not been completely chipped. He had to go to Home Depot and rent a stump grinder to make the area workable. He did so with all speed and did not charge extra for the additional labor involved. He was very detailed in the preparation work prior to laying the sod. He was hands on in laying the sod and directing his assistant. They worked diligently and were very friendly and professional in getting the job done. Cleanup of the site occurred on each day of work. The concrete repair work was excellent. The overall quality of the job exceeded my expectations and I would gladly employ the same people again. It took 3 different visits with 3 different workers to finally remove the old caulk. I had to resort to placing tape on areas of caulk that they missed. And after the 3rd visit, rather than call them back a 4th time, I removed some caulk that they?d missed on the 3rd try. Each time they came back to remove some more caulk, there was moisture trapped behind the caulk resulting in more delays while I placed a space heater in the shower to dry it out over night.
They didn?t have the proper tools so I had to loan them the tools I?ve used. Instead of vacuuming up all the removed caulk remnants, they used a paint brush to sweep it up but not until they had finished. Hence, their traffic to/from their truck left a trail of caulk remnants through the house. They didn?t have a shop vac. Finally, after a week of not being able to use the shower, they finished the new caulk application on 4/18 in about 1 hour. Because I wanted to use the best caulk, they mistakenly bought a Dap 3.0 caulk that they had no experience with. I would?ve used silicon. Unfortunately, this caulk is extremely difficult to apply and can only be smoothed and/or removed with mineral spirits. Apparently, they hadn't read the manufacturer's instructions and tried to smooth it with water and their finger. That made a mess of all the joints because the caulk behaved like glue. The caulk was all over the shower surround, floor, glass enclosure and threshold carpet. They had to leave to buy some mineral spirits and spent the next 2 -3 hours removing the overage and mess. After they left, we discovered that they must?ve tried to wash the caulk off of their hands in both of our bathroom lavatories because there were small spots of adhered caulk all over the inside of our lavatories and on the faucet handles. We also found caulk on our bedroom door handle.
The following is an update based on further communications with Calvins.
I sent the original report to Calvins resulting in an inspection by their General Manager. He decided to redo the work, removing most of the first applied caulk and recaulking. They also cleaned off excess caulk from various surfaces. That work was completed 5/2 to my satisfaction. I?ve updated their scores to reflect this follow-up work & corrected the Use Again from NO to YES.

The first year he did not have professional grade equipment but did an ok job. He was just getting his business started and we were fine with him having to grow his business to buy better equipment. We actually felt good supporting a new business. The second year he had purchased bits and pieces but we felt his work was getting sloppy. Edging was not done well, small things were missed, things not cleaned up, etc. When he did our weeding he actually pulled out all of my flowers as well as the weeds. I mentioned this to him and he apologized but made no effort to correct the situation or to reimburse me for the loss. The last job we had him do was to remove a downed tree. We agreed that he was to cut it into fireplace sized pieces, remove the stump and clean up and haul away any debris. I paid him 1/2 of the quoted price as a down payment. He cut the tree into approx 4 foot lengths (much too long for a fireplace) and left them in their full diameter - some of the logs are over 2 feet in diameter (HUGE!!!) He removed only 1/2 of the stump and did nothing to clean up after the partial stump removal, leaving a huge dirt and wound chip mound with bits of tree all over our yard. He then demanded the remaining payment. When I said I would pay him the remaining amount due when the job was done he actually became verbally abusive and threatened to take me to court ! He said he would finish the job when he got the balance. We gave in and sent him a check, and guess what ..... he never came back ! We have since found a new company who do an excellent job every time and ARE MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE THEN JEFF !!! We called and the same worker was sent out, who was not happy to have to come back and fix the problem. The second coating began to chip after about 3 months, but we thought since it was only the one or two small spots that were under the bath mat, maybe no additional ones will appear and we can just live with it. We also did not want to see the surly worker again. We let it go on for a couple of years until the coating was actually coming off in very large flakes. I then called the owner, told him who I was and reminded him that he had given me a 5 year warranty on this job and would he please come out and fix it again. He told me they would come out on the following Sunday to fix it. I told him that was not acceptable since we did not want the inconvenience on a weekend. He then told me that was the only time available and I could take it or leave it. I told him I would think about it and call him back. I have never been able to get hold of him again. He uses Benjamin Moore paints, which give a high quality result, and he is very good at estimating how much paint will be needed. He is very responsive, shows up when he promises he will, is extremely hardworking and honest, and he follows through. Mr. Bazile's rates were reasonable, he honored the price he quoted, and we are very pleased with how the exterior of our house turned out. We will DEFINITELY use him again when our new house needs exterior paint and would recommend him to others. On a side note, we used Mr. Bazile previously on a very large, complex interior paint job. I felt so comfortable with him and his knowledge and experience, that we just went with him, based on gut instinct, even though his reviews were under the exterior paint category. Mr. Bazile worked very hard to make sure I was pleased, and I was; however, his crew was not of the same caliber as Mr. Bazile himself, and I found that to be stressful. They were simply not as detail-oriented and organized as he was, and I felt that this required me to follow behind them more than I would have liked. Too bad we couldn't just clone Mr. Bazile! All of that being said, I would use Mr. Bazile again for interior paint jobs of a more manageable scale. In hindsight, I think the scope of this job was just so big that it would have been a challenge for anyone. He did an exceptional job on the woodwork and ceilings; he's a master with a brush! The other painters from whom I got estimates would not touch the windows and gave me estimates based on my replacing them. Mr. King's estimate was lower than those estimates, and it included caulking every board and reglazing every pane of glass. I cannot say enough about how thorough Mr. King and his crew were in the prep work for the house. I told him more than once that I felt like my house had been done with emery boards and q-tips! They applied a primer and two coats of paint. The body of the house was painted with a sprayer, the trim, doors and windows with a brush. When the first coat of paint was applied, it appeared to be much lighter than the shade I had chosen. Mr. King went to the paint store and had it "brought up" to a darker shade, which I liked very much. He charged me $150 for extra paint and labor (original estimate was $7,500). I have since discovered that I did not get the brand of paint I thought I was getting, and from whose colors I chose my color scheme. I bought some new house numbers and one of Mr. King's crew installed them. He did not install them correctly, and while Mr. King assured me at least twice that he would come back and install them correctly, patch and touch up the holes, that has not happened. The "C" in professionalism has nothing to do with Mr. King's conduct. His crew tended to leave trash, e.g. bottles, wood, etc., around. I have dogs, and while my dogs were in the house whenever the workers had to be in the back I had to check very carefully because the men left things (e.g., glass) that could harm them. Overall, I am very excited and proud of the way my house looks now. Working with Mr. King was a pleasure, and I wish him the best!

"Green Escapes is a very professional company. The staff and crews are so knowledgeable and kind. I recently had GE come out and install flower bed irrigation system. Because of some rainy few days, it took a day over expectation which was a big deal. The irrigation is on a timer and works very well. My landscaping has never looked better. I would recommend GE to anyone looking to install new or replacing landscaping."

These rates can vary depending on your location, the size of staff needed for the job, and overall job type. For example, a larger crew will be needed for structural additions and hardscaping versus planting flowers.
When it comes to landscapers, licensing laws vary. Landscaping architects are required to be licensed in all 50 states, whereas traditional landscaping contractors are not typically required to hold a certification. You’ll likely be working with a landscaping contractor for most residential projects. If you are redesigning your whole yard or adding in hardscape features, you will work with a landscaping architect at some point during the project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local landscaper guidelines.
