"Great Service. First time owning a home, First time getting a Major Repair/ Replacement , Damion came by and walked me through everything. He explained thoroughly the process and steps. I had many roofers knock on my door for the service but decided to go with Rock Solid Contracting and he worked with me to get it done. His guys came out as well and walked me through the process and how the two days would go. Top Service! Would definitely recommend!ð  ð ð ¾ð ¯"

"I am very satisfied with my choice to hire Beams Roofing and Contracting and highly recommend this company.  The work began only 4 days after I signed the contract, and it took a day & 1/2.  Mr. Beams is very knowledgable and his estimate was one of the lower of 4 quotes.  However, I was most impressed with him advising against replacing my custom skylights at this time.  This ultimately allows me to get several more good years from my existing skylights, and I can budget the cost of replacement down the road. I feel his priority is to do what's right for his customer, rather than making the most money possible on a job.

"The Daniels & Daniels team did a phenomenal job remodeling our basement; framing, electrical, and drywall work. The entire team was great to work with; always professional and went above and beyond to exceed our expectations. I’ll be contacting them again in the future for other projects."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.

In most cases, installing skylights will add value to your home, making them a worthwhile investment for many homeowners. Buyers are often attracted to the aesthetic appeal of skylights, as they make rooms feel brighter, airier, and more spacious by introducing natural light without compromising privacy. Beyond aesthetics, skylights can offer monetary benefits by potentially reducing energy bills. Additionally, models that can be opened provide extra ventilation, which is particularly useful in hotter climates for allowing accumulated hot air to escape from the ceiling. However, the return on investment depends on several factors. To maximize value, it's crucial that the skylights are installed by an experienced professional to avoid risks like water damage, which can deter savvy buyers. Regular maintenance and cleaning are also important. Furthermore, choosing the right frame and glazing materials for your specific climate will enhance their performance and appeal. While skylights are generally seen as an asset, homeowners should also consider the initial cost, which averages around $1,500 for installation.

When planning out skylights and deciding how big they should be, it's important to look at the dimensions of the interior space. In addition to changing a room aesthetically, skylights influence the illumination and temperature of the space below. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends that a skylight’s size should never be more than 5% of the floor area in rooms with many windows.

Yes, solar tubes are easier to install than skylights because they’re lighter, smaller, and easier to handle. They also require less roof cutting and have a faster, simpler installation process. This means they’re a more DIY-friendly option for homeowners who want to add more natural light to their homes.

The most popular treatment for a skylight is skylight shades. There are five primary types: manual, motorized, blackout, cellular//honeycomb, and Venetian. Motorized skylight shades are the most convenient, especially for skylights that are higher up, but manual shades are the most cost-effective treatments. Cellular/honeycomb shades are a perfect option for anyone who wants energy efficiency and an attractive look.
