Scary guy with a very short temper, yelled at me multiple times and threatened to tear the project apart right before he quit (with the 2nd half of the money already paid). "Scapes was contracted to refurbish an existing 12x14 (168 ft2) paver patio and stain a pergola. The patio has two sitting walls, one of which was leaning or tilted and needed to be rebuilt. The project reused the existing paver blocks, although a couple of new blocks were added. The quality of the patio work was very good, and I would give them 4 stars for the work. Scapes also stained the pergola which is part of the patio. The quality of the stain application was sub par, and for this effort I can only give them 2 stars. The stain all the way around was uneven, spots were missed, and some spots did not cover the bare wood very well. Scapes also scored very low in the ares of professionalism, responsiveness, and communication. In these areas I can only give them one star. a) Scapes used a different stain than what I had requested and never notified me of the change. Fortunately, the color was very close to what I had requested. (lack of communication and professionalism) b) The pergola is high enough to require a ladder to reach the higher sections for staining. They wanted to borrow a ladder from me. I don't have any ladders, so they went to Lowes to get one (lack of professionalism - when you come to do a job, you need to bring all the right tools). c) Brandon and I inspected the work after completion. We found several areas of the pergola that were not stained. Brandon said he would return another day to do the touch up stain work. After two scheduled times to do the work and two no shows, the work is still not complete. There was never a call or text informing me that he couldn't keep either appointment. (lack of responsiveness, communication, and professionalism) Recommendation: I do not recommend this contractor for the reasons stated above. Yes, they did a very good job refurbishing the patio, but did a lack luster job staining the pergola. And in a sense, never completed the work. Regarding price, I think their cost for the work and effort involved was very reasonable. For price I would give them 5 stars."

"First, some other company arrived and after they did the work said they were taking over the business. No one told us prior and we certainly didn't agree to that. Robison claims this isn't true and they are hired help so I don't know what is going on there. Second, we were told they charge 300 an hour and it would take 2.5 hours to complete. Estimate 800 for the 2.5 hours of work and they would remove the small stump also. When this other group arrived they "completed" the job in half an hour and left the stump. They still charged us 800. I contacted this company to complain and they backtracked and said stump was extra (we didn't even want to remove the tree originally and he talked us into it saying the stump would be removed which I 100 percent asked during initial meeting---now we have a stump we have to pay someone else to remove bc the space isn't usable with a stump there). They also started talking about drive time and other stuff we were never told about. We aren't paying 800 for 30 minutes of work and more work (and money spent) we have to do bc of them. They also destroyed my big beautiful tree I told this company to leave full (these other people had no idea bc we never spoke since we didn't hire them to begin with). Angi's list needs to do something bc what good is this service if this is allowed. We also never got an itemized bill or receipt (cash was requested instead of check). Businesses need to be upfront about costs and not backtrack on things discussed verbally. *Update:. They refunded 300 but not without argument and anger. They were here 30 minutes instead of 2.5 hours (big difference in expected time don't you think----I was told again that was just an estimate.....you would think it would be off within half an hour not 2) and I was yelled at about the cost of wood chippers and tools as to why I should pay 800 regardless how long they were here. So I guess customers are expected to pay off tools. This was a horrible experience and I wish I had just done it myself or left it. Now it is more of a chore and more money to finish it. Unreal. Never again."
