"I am extremely pleased with their work. Jacob is highly skilled and is very particular about his work. I had a tree next to a power line that was very difficult to remove safely but he did so without my having the power turned off. The best part of the job, however, was the extremely reasonable cost. I had a total of eight trees removed which would have cost at least twice as much, if not more, with other tree services. I can highly recommend J and R tree service."

"Islas Tree Service / Home Improvements helped me with a tree and stump removal and with a house remodel (bathroom, flooring, windows). Genaro and team were professional, produced high quality work, good with timelines, easy to work with, and kept the areas clean. They were also reasonably priced. I'd recommend them for exterior and interior projects!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

You can never truly stop a maple tree from growing taller, but you can rein in its growth by pruning. Proper pruning helps maintain a safe size for your tree without causing permanent damage. It’s important to start pruning a tree while it’s young, long before it becomes a problem. Otherwise, you may be left with too many hazardous branches to remove at once.

In most cases, you should not use a pruning seal on trees after trimming. Applying a sealant can interfere with the tree's natural healing process, and it does not guarantee protection from pathogens. Instead of sealing the cut, the best practice is to support the tree's natural recovery by providing it with plenty of water and a dormant-style fertilizer. However, there are exceptions. Pruning seals may be recommended for very vulnerable species, like elm trees, in areas where dangerous diseases such as Dutch elm disease are prevalent. In these specific situations, the protection offered by a sealant can outweigh its downsides. For advice tailored to your situation, especially after cutting large branches, it is best to consult a local tree trimming professional.

It can take anywhere from one month to a couple of years for tree roots to grow back in sewer lines. Tree roots can cause extreme havoc on your sewer lines, potentially cracking them and causing untreated wastewater to make its way into the groundwater. Have a landscaping pro remove trees and roots before installing your system, or call a pro to do it retroactively as soon as you can.

If you’re wondering whether you can plant a tree where the stump was removed, know that the soil conditions won’t be ideal, so you should avoid it. The soil beneath the previous tree will likely be depleted of nutrients, plus there may be roots left behind that will seriously hinder the growth of a new tree. Also, if you use salt or other chemical solutions to kill the stump, these can linger in the soil for months or even years and prevent healthy growth. It’s best to choose a different spot that’s at least three feet away for a new tree, or wait at least a year and thoroughly amend the soil before you plant.

Yes, you can hire professionals to move a tree. Arborists and tree transplanting companies specialize in this type of work and use equipment like hydraulic tree spades to safely extract and relocate trees with their root balls intact. Since tree moving is a complex process, especially for larger trees, it’s best left to experts who understand how to protect the tree’s health and ensure the safety of everyone involved.
