"They promptly returned my call. They had a fair price, anddid an excellent job with the trees. They cleaned the area, grinded the stumps and hauled away the trees and debris. The were respectful of our property and got all this done in 2 days. They did everything I asked and they were very thorough. I’d definitely hire them again if I ever need more any tree work."

"Islas tree service is the top choice in western Kentucky for tree removal. I have used him several times, both at my home and on my job sites. His knowledge and experience is secondary to no one. His equipment is top notch and his team is extremely experienced and detailed. They take no risks and do things only the right way. They have removed extremely large trees that have fallen on homes, without causing any further damage, they have taken several trees down for me that was very very large hanging over homes without damage to the homes what so ever. If you need any tree removals done they are the ones you should call."

Customers say: Quick response

"Jason Frazier handled the job well. He was very quick (the first!) to call (within 15 minutes) of when I posted the request, came by to give me an estimate early the next morning, provided a reasonable price on the spot, and was courteous and professional in his approach. Since I live out of town and could not be there when the job was completed, Jason sent me pictures of the finished work, and he completed the work on time and as requested. Based on this one instance, I would recommend Jason for lawn care jobs. I plan to use his services again."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Generally speaking, you’ll want to avoid flush cuts, which are cuts made as extremely close to the trunk or main branch. These cuts can weaken your tree, lower its natural defense mechanisms, and even cause decay. You’ll also want to avoid tree topping, which is the total removal of the leader and upper main branches of a tree.

Most pros will advise against either of these methods, which is why hiring a pro is often the best choice when it comes to tree trimming.

On grafted trees, tree suckers will grow from the root stock, not the branches grafted onto it. Therefore, the leaves and characteristics of the suckers aren’t the same as the tree because they are different varieties. Root stock has more hardiness, strength, or drought tolerance than its grafted limbs, so if the suckers are from fruit or flowers, it might be different than the main part of your tree.

Trees should be pruned every two to five years, depending on its age and type. Young trees should be inspected and pruned every two to three years. Mature trees should be inspected and trimmed every three to five years, and fruit trees should be pruned annually with a careful eye on seasonal growth. Evergreens typically don’t need pruning, unless branches or limbs are damaged, diseased, or harboring pests.

Generally, you should prune around 20% of an apple tree’s growth—and never more than 30%. This means that if you have a severely overgrown tree, it can take a few seasons to prune it back enough to produce the healthiest fruit.

If you’re dealing with a newly planted or juvenile tree, hold off on pruning beyond the initial shaping. Wait at least a couple of seasons into fruit production since pruning can increase the number of water sprouts and unproductive foliage.

You can use herbicides to prevent roots from growing without killing the tree itself, however they must be used with caution. Systemic herbicides are absorbed by the root and can kill off problematic roots. However, herbicides can sometimes negatively impact nearby plants, so the solution is best used sparingly.
