"I am extremely pleased with their work. Jacob is highly skilled and is very particular about his work. I had a tree next to a power line that was very difficult to remove safely but he did so without my having the power turned off. The best part of the job, however, was the extremely reasonable cost. I had a total of eight trees removed which would have cost at least twice as much, if not more, with other tree services. I can highly recommend J and R tree service."

"Islas Tree Service / Home Improvements helped me with a tree and stump removal and with a house remodel (bathroom, flooring, windows). Genaro and team were professional, produced high quality work, good with timelines, easy to work with, and kept the areas clean. They were also reasonably priced. I'd recommend them for exterior and interior projects!"

"Had good communications throughout. However, Hank s service was sporadic. He cut the trees and left them laying in my yard for about three weeks. He would promised to show up a couple of times and no show. Did not have all the proper tools to complete the job. Had to pay half of a Bobcat rental just for him to come and complete the work. Left my yard all torn up where I have to reseed."

"This company was very professional. They removed 3 trees and trimmed 3 trees. They cleaned up after themselves and left the yard in good condition. This was my first time hiring someone for tree service and I am a satisfied customer. Will hire them to do additional work in the future."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

In the case that a tree is growing directly on your property line, the cost of maintaining the tree is shared and is the property of both owners in common. In this case, all decisions regarding the maintenance of the tree must be made jointly, and both parties must agree on a course of action. You will need to agree with your neighbor about the cutting of any roots before you carry it out, and your neighbor must also consult with you before doing any trimming. Coming to an agreement with your neighbor about any shared trees ahead of necessary trimming and maintenance will make this process much simpler.

Opt for a barefoot tree. Pros harvest barefoot trees when they’re dormant (leafless). They shake the dirt from the root ball and pack it in moist material.

These trees can cost half as much as the trees at your local nursery, and you can buy them online—so there’s a much wider selection. Just make sure you keep your barefoot tree cool until you’re ready to plant it.

In general, trees should be planted no closer than 15 to 20 feet from your foundation. For larger trees with far-reaching roots like maples, oaks, or poplars, a good guide is to plant as many feet from your home as the tree’s height is expected to reach at maturity. Some trees, like elms and willows, should only be planted far from where their roots may encounter sewer or water lines.

A tree can grow back from its stump, but full regrowth is unlikely (especially for more stubborn conifer trees). Instead, trees are more likely to send up a number of shoots from the dead stump, which will try to develop into primary stems over time. In other words, it will start to look increasingly bushy. The goal of killing and drying out a tree stump is to prevent that from happening, as well as make the stump easier to completely remove.

The best time to transplant a tree is when it is dormant. For many trees, this means either in the fall after the leaves have dropped (around October or November) or in early spring before new growth begins (around March). The ideal timing can depend on the type of tree. Deciduous trees do well when moved in early spring or fall, while evergreens are best transplanted in early spring or late summer. For example, pine trees are best moved in early fall, but maples prefer late fall. Avoid transplanting in winter, as the frozen or hard, cold soil poses a significant risk to the roots and prevents the tree from acclimating properly.
