"We hired Guardian to install our security system at our Washington, DC, business. The service and quality of the work was horrible. We had cameras and an alarm system installed; it was a relatively large system. They outsource most of the work to various vendors. They could not manage their vendors; what was supposed to take a week took two months. The sales rep did not return calls, and you could never get anyone in management on the phone. Random people would show up at unannounced times. The few things that an actual Guardian employee did were they made a huge mess of our newly remodeled office and were rude to our staff. We have offices in five markets across the US and have high security at each; we have never had such a poor experience."

Monolithic slabs don’t require insulation, but many homeowners choose to have their contractors install insulation under the slab during construction. This can help improve home efficiency even more and keep indoor temperatures more stable. Don’t install insulation near water heaters, oil burners, or any other object that gets hot. Many insulation materials are fire-resistant, but not entirely fire-proof, so you should take precautions to keep hot things away from fiberglass. This is also why it is imperative to box off lighting fixtures and breaker boxes.

Each insulation type has its own R-value, so you’ll want to weigh the pros and cons of your materials when deciding which one will give you the best value. Energy.gov recommends you choose a pipe wrap that’s at least one inch thick. The International Code Council (ICC) suggests choosing a pipe material with an R-value of at least 3.
