"We have an old 1930's house that needed a large chimney repointed and cap replaced. Rod at Layman Masonry and his team were referred to us by our roofer, Kelvin Howard, for doing good work. We contacted Rod for a quote, and he came out the very next day to quote a price that was good considering the amount of work to be done. Rob and his team are insured and were courteous and friendly throughout the project. They showed up on time and maintained a clean job site. The project consisted of grinding out and replacing the old mortar, a new chimney cap and to put two coats of paint back on the chimney. The project was completed in 4 days despite rain every other day. We were very happy with the work done and will use Rod again in the future."

You have many options when it comes to hiring a professional painting contractor. Some people like to base this decision on price alone and hire whoever will do the work the cheapest, they sacrafice quality for a low price. Others sometimes overpay for the quality they recieve, in other words they pay for more then they actually get in return. I started In Demand Painting with a lofty goal, I wanted my company to live up to it's name. I wanted to provide customers with the very best work around for a fair price, and in return I wanted to become their painting contractor of choice. I want my customers to understand that their home is normally the biggest investment they will ever make, and that a poor paint job not only looks bad but can actually damage their home. Unprotected surfaces can rot and fail, causing sometimes thousands of dollars worth of repairs. High quality paints and coatings applied in a proper manner can help prevent these types of damage, but many contractors skimp in these areas. They either use inferior or watered down products or they apply them in a manner which doesn't allow the product to perform properly. I take great pride in know that all paints and coatings applied by In Demand Painting meet or exceed the manufacturers specifications. This not only allows the paint and coatings to look their very best and to properly protect the surfaces they are applied to, but also makes the paint manufacturers warranty valid in case an issue should ever arise. I believe that every job no matter how big or how small is a direct reflection on my company. I believe that with every stroke of a paint brush I am showing the world just how much skill I posess as a painter and how much pride I take in my work. I believe strongly that if you give a customer a valuable service at a fair price that not only will they call you themselves when they have a project, but that they will also tell their friends and family about the great service and value they recieved. "We had a very old oven/stove unit that finally gave up the ghost the week before Thanksgiving. Horrors. My husband bought a replacement on Craigs List. It was new, still in the box, but we were not 100% sure it would work in our space. Anthony and his co-worker determined that the new oven was four inches too short and "tight" on the sides. I thought "oh-oh". But without hesitation or hemming and hawing, they made it work. They took responsibility for the whole job all the way to completion. They had to replace the cable, cut the counter on both sides (!!!), and add lumber to elevate the oven. It looks beautiful and the appliance gets hot when I turn it on. Thumbs up. My husband was so happy he didn't have to mess with this. Let me add that they were very careful about my wood floors, and didn't bump any walls bringing the new oven in and taking the old oven out."

You will be placing holes in the wall to hang the mounting bracket. If you’re mounting a large TV, the bolts in use could make significant holes around half an inch in diameter. Other than a few holes, though, the process of mounting the TV should not cause significant damage to the wall, unless you make an error and miss the wall stud, tearing out drywall. Should you decide to remove the mount later, the DIY drywall repair cost for a small hole usually is $10 to $30. It’s a repair you can do in a few minutes.

Small hairline cracks in plaster walls are not serious and are mostly cosmetic, but larger or widespread cracks indicate structural problems that need repair. 

  • Cracks 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) or thinner: Cosmetic cracks you can repair if desired.

  • Cracks wider than 0.5 centimeters or widespread cracks: Structural repair is needed, either DIY or by a pro.

  • Cracks 2.5 centimeters (1 inch) or wider: Contact a plaster repair professional.

Watch for large, deep cracks, multiple cracks in the same area, and cracks along the walls where they meet the ceiling. Repair these cracks to prevent further damage.

It may take a bit of patience and trial and error to match your particular drywall texture type when making repairs. For orange peel or knockdown finishes, use a spray texture product or a thinned joint compound applied with a roller or sponge. Practice on scrap drywall or cardboard first. Once dry, lightly sand and prime before painting.

You’ll want to inspect your plaster walls for signs of damage before painting. If you notice soft spots, deep cracks, bubbling, or areas where the plaster is crumbling or pulling away from the wall, it likely needs repair. While small hairline cracks are common and likely cosmetic, you should address larger issues before painting to ensure a quality, smooth finish.

In some cases, the plaster and other building materials shift and come apart over time, which is why you’ll commonly find drooping plaster ceilings in older homes. Improper installation, foot traffic, and water damage—often from a leaky roof or a broken pipe—can also cause plaster ceilings to sag.
