"The technician emptied the freezer, which was in the basement, to work on the part that needed repair. Then he neglected to put anything back into the freezer, including a turkey I had bought for Christmas and a rack of ribs. Two days after he left, I went out of town for two weeks. The turkey actually exploded and spewed its liquid all over everything, which had to be discarded. I let AHS know and they couldn't even bother to call me or follow up on this. I'm considering not renewing my contract with them because of the quality (or lack thereof) of many of the providers they send."

A septic tank is an underground container that collects and holds wastewater until it’s sufficiently filtered and broken down. The size of your water well pressure tank is limited only by your budget and the amount of space you have to use. Larger tanks can hold more water, meaning your well pump will need to cycle less often. This can extend the life of both the pressure tank and your well pump. Larger tanks cost more and take up more room, though.

The efficacy of a drain field depends on a wide variety of factors, though a well-maintained one can last as long as 40 or 50 years. Of the different types of septic tanks on the market, concrete and plastic tanks tend to last the longest—upwards of 40 years if they’re pumped regularly—while steel tanks have a tendency to rust over time and may need to be replaced after 15 or 20 years.

You can add three rotten tomatoes or 1/4 ounce of yeast to your septic tank to speed up the decomposition of sludge. You can add the tomatoes by way of your garbage disposal and the yeast by way of your toilet. You can do either of these additives once every three months as needed.

Neither system is necessarily better or worse than the other, but one of the two might be better for your needs. For example, anaerobic systems are less expensive than aerobic ones and don’t use power to run. On the other hand, aerobic septic systems don’t take up as much space and are typically more efficient than their anaerobic counterparts.
