"Excellent work from start to finish. My father was a mason, so I know great work when I see it. First, they brought in a tear-down team to remove the chimney down to the first-floor roof level of our two-story house. After which, they rebuilt the chimney to original height installing approximately 900 new bricks using a new Type N mortar. They installed a new 5" thick concrete crown with a 2" drip edge and an expansion joint. They replaced all accessible sections of fireplace clay flue tile extending 4" - 6" above the concrete crown. Installed new stainless steel chimney cap. Installed 2 sets of new step and counter flashing. Installed 2 sets of new ice water shields and shingles as needed. Cleaned and weather sealed chimney entirely upon completion. After the chimney rebuild was done, the Mason, Seth, and his crew cleaned the work site, to include the whole driveway. They are a very efficient and thorough team. I understand that they like to leave the customer's house and yard as clean or better than they find it."

"Seth was on time, professional and took the time to explain in detail what was up with the chimneys and the fireplace. Also took great care to explain why the recommended method of repair was needed. Most importantly he knew the urgency of report for inspections and had full report and estimate to me within one hour after leaving house. THANK Y(OU"

"Vinnie and his crew were very thorough. They showed up when expected and took time to listen to concerns about the chimney. They inspected the roof and made recommendations to improve safety and longevity of the structure. Highly recommend!"

Chimney Inspection questions, answered by experts

You can tell if you have ridge vents by looking at the roof’s peak from outside. A ridge vent will look like a speed bump or slight rise away from the roof’s surface and will likely be covered in the same material as the rest of the roof. You can also tell from inside your attic—look up at the roof ridge to see if there is light coming through along the length of the ridge.

A roof can collapse from a leak if the leak is left unattended long enough. A collapse will happen when the structural components of your roof become saturated with water over time. The roof deck or rafters can slowly weaken until they can no longer support the weight of your roof.

This depends on the design of your roof and any preexisting issues. If you have water and puddles pooling, no matter the roof type, apply a coat of sealant immediately. Beyond that, seal a flat roof every five years, though constant rain and snow hasten this time frame to three or four years. Add a few years for sloped roofs, waiting six to eight years between applications, as water does not pool with these designs.

Asphalt shingles most commonly suffer from granule loss, which can occur in any climate and just happens naturally as the roof is exposed to the elements. In areas that see more extreme weather, like hail, strong winds, and excessive rainfall, common issues can include pock marks from hailstones, curling or lifting shingles, or roof leaks and related mold growth on the roof decking below.

In many areas, chimney repair companies need to be licensed, but it depends on your state and local municipality. You can check with your local building department to see if companies need licenses, and then you can use Angi’s license lookup tool to confirm that the company you’re considering holds the proper license. It’s a good idea to confirm that the professional is fully insured, and you can ask about certification from organizations like the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA). These certifications aren’t mandatory, but they help ensure a professional repair.
