"My home was built in 2000 so initial evidence of asbestos discovered in my crawlspace was thought to be in error. I called AAA Remediation and they came out to take samples for the lab. Asbestos was confirmed and I had them remove. It appears when my home was being constructed they needed ~ 8 shims regarding the piers - apparently one of the subcontractors used pieces of shutters from an old home in his pickup bed. The builder was not aware of this and as advised me reimbursement would be received. I mention this as even new homes can contain hazardous material not intended by the builder and missed during inspections. AAA did a great job with remediation and I would recommend."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Mildew and mold are not different—mildew is a specific type of mold and yes, it can become dangerous if left untreated. It would be amazing if we were all biochemists but because we most likely aren’t, it isn’t wise to assume any mold is mildew on sight alone. Harmless mold and toxigenic mold (which can be deadly) look very similar, so if you see any new mold that looks even a little suspect, call a mold professional immediately.

If you need mold remediation, you’re probably looking at a bill of a couple thousand dollars or more. Sometimes, though, your homeowner’s insurance policy may cover some or all of the costs of the remediation. If the black mold forms because of a covered event, such as a storm that damages your roof, and causes leaking or flooding in the basement, it’s possible the policy also covers mold remediation. It never hurts to ask your insurance company if it will cover the cost of black mold remediation.

In most cases, cloudy tap water is safe to drink, as the cause is often harmless air bubbles. A simple test is to let a glass of water sit for a few minutes; if the cloudiness dissipates, it was likely just trapped air. However, you cannot be certain of the water's safety without knowing the cause or performing a water test. If the cloudiness is persistent, comes with yellow or brown discoloration, or is accompanied by plumbing issues, it may pose a health risk. In such cases, it is best to call a local plumber to find the cause.

Iron sediments from rusty pipes are not likely to cause health problems. While a glass of yellow-hued water is off-putting, it is generally safe to drink yellow water in the short term. But you certainly want to address this problem. In the meantime, switching to bottled water until the yellow water issue is resolved is a good idea.

Mold grows quickly. It typically begins to grow on drywall about 24 hours after exposure to moisture or humidity. Drywall is a porous material, which makes it particularly hospitable to mold growth.

While mold growth begins after just a day or so, it can take a few weeks before the evidence becomes visible. Mold spores will typically appear on the drywall surface within three weeks of growth starting.
