"Not only does Down Under Roofing use quality materials, the quality of the workmanship is outstanding. He is very polite with the customer as well as accommodating to individual requests. He always answers his phone or returns calls promptly. I have contacted him several times with challenges that needed to be addressed right away. He has always responded in a way that is far above average. I have asked for several quotes for roofing bids and his prices are usually lower that anyone else I have ever used in the past.He is a people person and tries very hard to please. I have been in the real estate business for over 40 years and have come in contact with many different types of tradesmen, including other roofers. Down Under Roofing has gained my loyalty so much so that I don’t even bother calling other companies that I have previously used because Down Under Roofing has never disappointed me."

"It was refreshing to have an honest repairman come out and look inside the house where it was leaking and also on the roof. Rodney Jenkins did an awesome job figuring out the issues and caulking those areas to eliminate the leaks caused by poor workmanship when my roof was replaced in 2013 or 2014. I would highly recommend this company."

"Remmy contacted me quickly and came out the next day to check out my roof. Over the phone I told him I had a newborn so he was nice and called when he was outside instead of ringing the doorbell in case my son was sleeping. For the inspection he showed me pictures of what was wrong and what they would do to fix it. Remmy and his crew came out and fixed the problem quickly as well as making sure there was no other problems. They will always be my first to come to if I have roofing problems."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can walk on torch down roofing. It is durable and tear-resistant enough to handle that kind of low-level wear. Remember that torch down roofing can get uncomfortably hot in certain climates. Dark roofing absorbs heat and can burn bare feet. If you want to use a roof deck for lounging, you may want to install a lighter-colored PVC membrane.

Metal roofs have a bad reputation for being loud, even if that's not necessarily true—it's usually only thin tin or sheet metal roofs that are loud during storms. Stone coating adds a layer to the metal that severely cuts down on any noise from rain. In many ways, stone-coated steel roofs are quieter than your average, run-of-the-mill asphalt shingle roof.

Roof work is dangerous and exacting, and a misstep could lead to even more costly repairs, so we do not recommend DIYing. If you are dead set on giving it a go, practice safety measures. Wear a harness, only work during mild weather, and have a partner to help. Potentially DIY-friendly jobs include patching up small leaks, sealing areas around the chimney, and replacing a few shingles.

Properly installed chimney flashing can last anywhere from 15 to 50 years. However, flashing generally only needs to be replaced when it is damaged, corroded, or no longer creates a watertight seal. Several factors influence its longevity, including the material type, quality of installation, and local climate. For example, copper flashing tends to last longer than galvanized steel. Large storms and extreme weather can also damage flashing, potentially requiring earlier replacement. To ensure its longevity, it is recommended to have your chimney and roof inspected annually. A professional can assess the flashing's condition and recommend any necessary repairs.

For homeowners who plan to stay in their homes for a long time or never want to have to deal with replacing a roof again, rubber roof shingles are likely worth the added investment amount over asphalt shingle varieties. While the initial cost of installing a rubber shingle roof will be significantly higher, their long life spans can be worth it in the long term. Consider the curb appeal of a rubber roof, though, as other roofing materials, like metal, can look better and offer even greater value.
