"I got in contact with Chad last year when I was looking to get some old asphalt repaired on my driveway. They came and did a fabulous job milling out old areas and resurfacing with quality new asphalt. They did more surface area than what was originally quoted and did not charge for it. Fast forward 10 months, we had them come back to do the whole driveway, grade some land and expand the driveway even further (It looks great). The guys at SHOC pride themselves in the quality of the end product. They work hard and fast and I highly recommend them as a top option."

Derrie and his team kept me updated with each step of my project, cleaned up each day and were very respectful of me and my property. The job was done timely and their work ethic is amazing! "Have a gravel driveway that was in need of some work. Instead of dumping more gravel it was redistributed and leveled out. I’m very pleased with the outcome. Not only does it look like new I thought it was very reasonable priced."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Gravel is one of the few driveway materials that can handle rain the second it’s installed. Unlike asphalt, which needs days to set, or concrete, which requires weeks to cure, gravel is ready as soon as it’s compacted. It’s naturally permeable, allowing water to drain straight through—with no risk of pooling or surface damage. Gravel driveways are one of the most affordable, at $1 to $3 per square foot, and can also last upward of 100 years.

A driveway's lifespan varies by material. Asphalt driveways typically last 15 to 30 years, while concrete driveways last longer, between 20 and 50 years. The longevity of any driveway is affected by factors like extreme temperatures, heavy traffic, and the quality of maintenance. Regular upkeep, such as filling cracks, resealing the surface, and ensuring proper drainage, can help extend its life. For gravel driveways, regrading to fill in uneven areas every year or two is recommended.

The cost to pour a driveway apron depends on the material and size. Concrete costs $3 to $10 per square foot, asphalt ranges from $2 to $5, and pavers are $5 to $15 per square foot. Additional expenses, like excavation, base material, and labor, can increase the total cost. For example, a standard 12x15-foot concrete apron could cost between $540 and $1,800, depending on local rates and additional work required. Always consult a local driveway paving contractor to get an accurate estimate tailored to your project.

The driveway apron is a technical term referring to where a private driveway meets the public street. If there is a sidewalk in front of the house, the driveway apron is typically on the opposite side of the public sidewalk from the driveway itself.

An ideal driveway gradient is between 2% and 5%. Anything lower than 1% or higher than 15% can cause problems for your car or property. A driveway with less than a 1% slope increases your likelihood of flooding and water damage, while a driveway with a 15% grade or higher can be too steep for safe traveling.
