"Hosfelt paving did a driveway and some patchwork. He showed up when he said he would and did a great job. He filled some holes we had in driveway and laid asphalt. We went from a muddy and rocky driveway to smooth asphalt driveway."

"Great job by Holliday Concrete. They communicated throughout the project, which was to replace the garage floor, driveway, front steps and sidewalk leading up. Great work, very professional. Clean up at the end was great as well."

"They came out last year and brought gravel for the back driveway. The kids had to park behind each other and were always having to go around one another to leave. Frank came up with a solution that has made life easier in the comings and goings. I needed the front driveway repaired and sealed. They came out and did a great job. I am very pleased with their work"

"Derrie and his crew did a fantastic job! They worked in to the evening, and cleaned up every evening before they leaved the site. Their customer service and work ethic was great. The craftsmanship and pricing was tip top, and they blew our other price quotes out of the water. I would recommend them to any friend or family member looking for quality concrete work."

"The guys came out to look at the job and give me a quote. I got the quote, but apparently it didn’t cover the whole scope of the work. There were add-Ons that I thought would’ve been included in the original fees. I don’t know about asphalt work, but I do know quality work, and I felt it was lacking. The guys did communicate with me and tried to work with me and the project. In all fairness, my driveway was is disrepair and it does look better."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.

Asphalt paving offers several benefits, including cost-effectiveness and a quick installation process. It provides a durable and smooth surface, making it ideal for high-traffic areas. With proper maintenance, asphalt also offers longevity.

Whether it's worth it to install a heated driveway depends on how often you'll use it, your lifestyle, and your budget. If you live in a mild climate with little snowfall, then installing a built-in heated driveway system may not be worth it. If you live in a region that experiences mild snowfall, then a portable mat could work better. However, if you live in a region with heavy snowfall, it makes sense to invest in a built-in heated driveway.

The driveway apron is a technical term referring to where a private driveway meets the public street. If there is a sidewalk in front of the house, the driveway apron is typically on the opposite side of the public sidewalk from the driveway itself.

While some areas may allow for a slope of up to 20%, this is often the maximum slope for driveways, with a few exceptions of up to 25%. Other regions may have a maximum of 12%, 15%, or 18%, so check with your local building department to ensure you’re laying a driveway that is up to code for your location.
