"Hired Outlook to build a walkway from our driveway around the side of our house to back patio (slopes quite a bit so needed stairs). Matt came out right away (in the snow!) to review job, draw up plans, and make recommendations on the type of pavers and style of walkway. When project started in spring, the 2 employees did an amazing job working on all the details. It was obvious that they take a lot of pride in their work and the walkway is beautiful. The walkway was built 2 years ago and still looks like new. I plan to hire them again for another project. Would (and have) highly recommend Outlook Hardcape."

"I highly recommend Ed and his company crew. They did an excellent job on my concrete patio. The crew was professional, arrived on time, and paid close attention to every detail. The finished work looks great, and they left the area clean when the job was done. I’m very happy with the quality of their work and would definitely hire them again. Thank you for a job well done! "Hosfelt paving did a driveway and some patchwork. He showed up when he said he would and did a great job. He filled some holes we had in driveway and laid asphalt. We went from a muddy and rocky driveway to smooth asphalt driveway."

The Overland Concrete Construction (OCC) estimator carefully explained how the company would accomplish the job. Upgrade and add-on features were conveniently presented for consideration.  For example, poor traction on our driveway has always been a concern. A concrete sealer with a traction additive was suggested. The result was impressive.

OCC's scheduler did a patient and persistent job of getting us on the schedule promptly.  There were rain events and other previously scheduled construction projects on our property to consider.

Superior design, materials and craftsmanship were provided to us by OCC.  Our project was difficult due to a significant incline from curb to garage.  Also, we had existing concrete walks that we wished to leave in place.  These factors limited the options available to our project foreman as he planned the forming and installed the forms for out concrete pour.  He knew how to achieve a good outcome and spent considerable time working with his crew to make it happen.  An element of artisan technique blended with construction expertise gave us a visually appealing product that functions well.

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

The answer to whether or not you need to get a permit before you start your driveway can vary widely based on local ordinances and the scope of your driveway ideas. In most urban and suburban areas, a permit is needed before building a new driveway to ensure that a homeowner is using safe materials and proper drainage practices while designing and constructing a new driveway. In some rural areas, a homeowner may not be required to apply for a permit. When building a new driveway on your own, always check with your local building department to see if you need to request a permit. When hiring a driveway contractor, verify that the right permits are being used before driveway construction begins.

Yes, you can retrofit an existing driveway, but this usually involves cutting grooves into the driveway, installing the heating elements, then sealing them. While this is much less expensive than typical heated driveway systems, the final appearance could be diminished. Speak with a driveway paving company to confirm which design method is best for you.

In terms of durability, concrete driveways can last more than 50 years when properly maintained, compared to the typical 30 years for an asphalt driveway. However, the durability depends on the climate, base material and thickness, and thickness of the concrete or asphalt used. The longevity of concrete or asphalt driveways also depends on how well it’s maintained and the amount of wear and tear it endures.

The cost to pour a driveway apron depends on the material and size. Concrete costs $3 to $10 per square foot, asphalt ranges from $2 to $5, and pavers are $5 to $15 per square foot. Additional expenses, like excavation, base material, and labor, can increase the total cost. For example, a standard 12x15-foot concrete apron could cost between $540 and $1,800, depending on local rates and additional work required. Always consult a local driveway paving contractor to get an accurate estimate tailored to your project.

In most cases, you don’t need a permit to repave your driveway, although some exceptions exist. If you’re widening your driveway and plan on widening the apron as well, you’ll usually need a permit from the Department of Transportation in your area. This permit costs between $50 and $300 in most cases. Most municipalities will also require a certified and insured contractor do the work relating to the apron and curb cut. You can contact your building department or ask your paving company if you need a permit. Your driveway professional will usually pull the permit for you.
