"Robert arrived on time and ready to work. He knew what he was doing with our LG washing machine. He had to access the underside and found that a part that held the tub assembly and rotator had actually fallen off. He reattached it and it is running fine now. The charge was less than I thought it would be but no parts were needed - just expertise...which Robert has. Thanks again for a job well done."

"The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

"Handyman was there at time requested (10 minutes earlier). Had plenty of hardware and accessories in his van in order to minimize travel to Home Depot and such. Tools and wireless internet information were used for proper installation of equipage. He checked all installations for proper functioning/operation and provided overview of completed work to my wife. He estimated 8 hours of work and was finished under 7. Extremely professional and transparent with his approach to serve and work with the customer. Cost included all required hardware and labor."

"The deal on Angie's list stated that wires would be "dressed." To me this means that the wires would be covered. There were wires sticking out all over and was extremely unsightly. I had to pay an additional fee to "dress the wires." When that was completed, it looked much much better. Unfortunately, the pictures below show how it looks now. Some wires are still exposed and the paint was chipped."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The NEC prohibits the installation of electrical panels within clothing closets. Closets are filled with flammable items like clothing, mothballs, shoe polish, plastic containers, and exposed light bulbs. If the panel develops a small electrical fire, it won’t take long to bloom into a real disaster. If you have an electrical panel in one of your home’s closets, move it as soon as possible with the help of a professional electrician.

Generators are safe to use as long as they are installed and operated correctly according to the manufacturer's recommendations. The most critical safety tips are to never use a portable or fuel-powered generator inside an enclosed space due to the risk of lethal carbon monoxide poisoning; always operate it outdoors where fumes can dissipate away from your home. Additionally, never attempt to connect a generator to your home’s electrical panel yourself—hire a professional to ensure the setup meets safety standards. Finally, avoid overloading the generator by not connecting more appliances than it is rated for, as this can damage your equipment or cause a fire.

If you’re replacing wires from an electrical meter box to the breaker box, you may also consider installing a new meter or replacing or repairing the breaker box . You can tell if the circuit breaker is bad if you’re dealing with tripping or worrisome burning smells. Both projects should also be handled safely by a licensed electrician.

Hiring a professional electrician to wire a house costs anywhere from $1,500 to $10,000 or more depending on the size and complexity of the project. Most professional electricians charge $50 to $100 per hour. While the extra expense is significant, it’s worth it to ensure the safety of your home’s electrical system.

If you have a lamp that flickers or doesn’t stay on, it’s a sign that it’s time to rewire it. Additionally, it’s important to rewire antique lamps so they’re safe to continue using without the risk of an electrical fire. If the plug on your lamp is more than 15 years old or you notice poor performance like flickering, you should hire a lamp repair service to rewire it. If you’re upgrading the bulbs in an antique lamp from incandescent to LED or CFL bulbs, rewire it so it’s compatible with the modern bulbs.
