"Our sunroom is built on a slab of concrete. It began taking in water between the concrete slab and the walls. Josh Rae came out gave us a bid for Polyurea product which was $1000 cheaper than an epoxy coating which will yellow in 5 years plus came with a 15 year transferrable warranty! The installation crew was knowledgeable and did a great job. I would hire them for any other work in a heartbeat."

"We are delighted with our new patio flooring from Garage Force. Sarah and Allen explained the process and prepared a proper surface by repairing cracks in our concrete floor using a product that is stronger than concrete. The first layer was the polyurea concrete coating, then a layer of decorative chips, and finally, a clear top shiny coat to seal everything. A few bubbles appeared a few days later, but the Garage Force team immediately returned and eliminated them. The flooring is warranted for life, so we are confident in its durability. There were many samples of chip colors to choose from, and it was nice to have the installation completed in a single day. Sarah and Allen are experienced, knowledgeable, and trustworthy. After installation, the flooring was allowed to dry and ready to use about 24 hours later. We moved our furniture back and are ready to enjoy our beautiful new, easy-to-clean floor. The chips give the floor texture, so we do not fear slipping. We are having dinner"

Epoxy Flooring questions, answered by experts

The biggest downside of sealing concrete is that it needs to be resealed every few years. This routine maintenance can be laborious if you do it yourself and expensive if you hire a professional. Beyond that, sealing concrete can make the surface slippery, which can be dangerous with people with mobility issues, young children, or those with pools near their patios.

Yes, you can seal old or existing concrete, but proper preparation is crucial. The concrete surface must be clean, dry, and free of any incompatible old sealant. To check if an old sealer is present, drip a few drops of water onto the surface; if the water is absorbed in under five minutes, it's ready to be resealed. If you plan to use the same type of sealer that was previously applied, you may not need to remove the old layer. However, if you are using a different type of sealer, the old one must be completely removed. Before applying the new sealer, thoroughly clean the concrete and repair or fill any cracks to ensure a smooth, well-prepared surface.

While you shouldn’t use thinset mortar on its own as a floor leveler, it can work alongside other products to help level floors. For instance, you could start with a self-leveling compound, let that dry, then apply backer board with thinset mortar to help fully even out the floors ahead of laying tile.

You’ll usually need to prime a garage floor before painting—especially if the floor is unpainted. Garage floors are made from concrete, which is porous and produces dust. The dust can contaminate the paint and cause issues with adherence.

Primer creates a barrier and gives you a clean surface to work on. It also minimizes absorption to help give you an even, pro-looking paint job. Make sure you choose a primer that’s specifically designed to cover concrete flooring.

Mix the resurfacer into a sticky mixture. The consistency should look like mashed potatoes. Use a squeegee to push the resurfacer across the pitted area and smoothen the surface with a cement trowel flush. Make sure you protect any expansion joints with a weather strip. Alternatively, cut out any resurfacer that touched the joint once the mixture begins to harden.
