"I had limbs hanging on my power line. I had called electric company but no one showed. I had started to call tree services that were approved by home advisor but the first 2 didn't answer their phone. While being frustrated thinking what to do, I get a phone call from this company saying home advisor sent out a alert that I was looking. THEY CALLED ME!!! Brett said he'd be over in about an hour to look at the situation and give me a bid. 2 days later we had another storm more limbs on the power line, electric company finally came out but limbs everywhere. I called Brett, came over in an hour said his team could clean it up and he took other limbs I had piled. Oh and he could of kept my deposit but he assured me if I didn't use him it would be refunded.....it's hard to find honest people when you're in a stressful situation. I've given his name to my neighbor next door who has the tree that created all this! Bottom line....he called me, estimate was fair, came through when I needed him and is an honest guy. Call him."

"RJ Tree Surgeons were the professionals you always hope to find when you need something done. They were extremely cautious in bringing down our 60 foot tree. They made sure it didn't hit anything but the ground even though it was inches from the neighbors fence, feet from our house and other properties. They were courteous, careful, and business-like with a Kansas sincerity that made them a pleasure to associate with. I highly recommend them and look forward to future tree services with them when we need to cut another pesky overgrown tree down. Hire them. You won't regret it."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Some people prefer to leave or even carve a leftover stump, but we recommend removing it if possible. You can often dig out smaller trunks with a shovel once they have died and dried out. You can have stumps professionally removed, or request a service to grind them down to ground level so they can be replaced with other landscaping or objects.

You can start your search for a reputable arborist online by looking for professionals who hold the proper licensing and are fully insured. Next, read through some online reviews to see what kind of service the expert brings to the table, and confirm that they don’t have a history of complaints with the Better Business Bureau. Finally, you can ask the professional for a list of references and then call them to ask questions about the service, professionalism, value, and more that the expert brings to the table.

Bradford pear trees bloom in early spring with small white flowers. They typically flower for at least two weeks. In bloom, these trees often emit a foul-smelling odor that’s often compared to rotting fish. Bradford pear trees will sometimes bloom in the fall due to drought or other stress-inducing conditions.

Generally, you’ll want to prune back the trunk by 1 to 2 feet each year to promote bushy growth. Doing so concentrates vegetative buds closer to the bottom of the tree, where you can easily harvest fruit. For side shoots that are a year old, leave at least six leaves.

Never remove more than 30% of a tree’s foliage during pruning—even if your tree is really overgrown. Removing this much foliage at a time could kill your tree.

Yes, it is essential to confirm that any tree service company you hire is properly insured before they begin work. Tree removal, trimming, and pruning are dangerous jobs, and proper insurance protects you, your home, and the company from liability in case of accidents or damage. Look for a company that carries both general liability and workers’ compensation insurance, and do not hire one that cannot provide proof of coverage. When browsing for professionals, you can look for indicators like an “Angi Approved” badge, which signifies that the business meets standards like holding applicable licenses and passing a background check. Keep in mind that a license is a legal requirement to operate, while certifications are typically voluntary.
