"Huff's Tree Service was contracted to remove 2 massive trees along with a medium one. Crew worked a full day and did a great job! Crew was friendly, professional and they left things looking neat and tidy. Haul away of large pieces was completed the same day, and stumps ground beyond our expectations within a reasonable time frame. Crew was courteous to our neighbors'properties as well. Will definitely consider them for future needs, and highly recommend them to anyone needing a professional tree service."

"They did a wonderful job! They cleaned up the area after cutting down our tree. In fact you couldn't tell there had been a tree they cleaned up so well. I would hire them again and I highly recommend them to anyone."

"RJ Tree Surgeons were the professionals you always hope to find when you need something done. They were extremely cautious in bringing down our 60 foot tree. They made sure it didn't hit anything but the ground even though it was inches from the neighbors fence, feet from our house and other properties. They were courteous, careful, and business-like with a Kansas sincerity that made them a pleasure to associate with. I highly recommend them and look forward to future tree services with them when we need to cut another pesky overgrown tree down. Hire them. You won't regret it."

Small jobs welcome

"Drew is very thorough and professional. He called before he came, and arrived on time. He finished the job early and cleaned up before he left. When he went over the energy audit report with me, he patiently answered all my questions, and gave me great information so I can start my energy saving projects. I highly recommend."

"He did an amazing job! Completed the job in one day, 230 linear feet of chain link fence, and three gates. He even came out the next day and lowered a few spots for us for free. And ontop of the great job that was done, he also helped me with cutting down a tree that had fallen in my backyard due to a storm that had rolled through the previous night. Great work! Great prices!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

If you want to take your tree-planting hobby beyond your outdoor space, here are a few great ways to do it:

  • Encourage your neighbors to participate in the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program, which has a four-step framework that helps communities grow and maintain their own tree cover.

  • Support businesses that plant trees.

  • Lobby your local government to plant more trees around your community.

  • Donate to a tree-planting charity.

The amount of time it takes for a tree trunk to rot depends on several factors, including the tree’s size, species, and environmental conditions. It can take anywhere from a few years to several decades for a tree’s trunk to rot. A tree stump, on the other hand, can take up to 10 years to disappear after it’s decayed naturally.

While the fastest way to kill a tree is to simply cut it down, there are several other methods to choose from. You should hire a professional tree removal service to cut down a tree to ensure your personal and property safety. Some slower but effective options include treating or grinding the tree stump or using a basal bark treatment.

The best time to transplant a tree is when it is dormant. For many trees, this means either in the fall after the leaves have dropped (around October or November) or in early spring before new growth begins (around March). The ideal timing can depend on the type of tree. Deciduous trees do well when moved in early spring or fall, while evergreens are best transplanted in early spring or late summer. For example, pine trees are best moved in early fall, but maples prefer late fall. Avoid transplanting in winter, as the frozen or hard, cold soil poses a significant risk to the roots and prevents the tree from acclimating properly.

Completely topping a plum tree is a risky business. Cut too much, and you’ll kill your tree. That said, you do need to trim the top of your tree to encourage bushy growth, maintain your tree’s vase shape, and limit size.

A plum tree's central leader (or trunk) should never extend more than 3 feet above the highest branch. When you first plant your tree, cut the central leader so it’s 2 to 3 feet tall. As it grows, cut it back 12 to 20 inches until it reaches its desired height. Never prune more than one-third of the new growth.
