"Complete Property Services workers were exceptional. I had some large trees next to the house removed due to concern for their condition and the possibility that they would fall on the house. They also trimmed the branches of a huge cottonwood that were hanging over my power line. I also had other trees removed, trees trimmed, a hedge of mulberries trees/bushes removed, and a pile of broken branches that was overgrown with vines and weeds removed. They did a fantastic job, they hauled several loads of wood and debris away and raked the area beneath their trimming and cutting cleaner than they found it. They were able to work this project into their schedule earlier than I had anticipated. This companies workers were dependable, skilled, conscientious, respectful, and pleasant men to deal with and have working on this project. I felt the charge for these services was reasonable and a better value and prompter availability than other estimates and information that I had previously received from other companies. I would definitely use this company again and highly recommend their services to others needing tree removal and tree trimming."

"The young men at Treesus did an amazing job trimming and/or removing around a dozen trees on my property. They were prompt in contacting me once I selected them from the Angi website. They were equally prompt in beginning the job. They were very courteous friendly and easy to talk/work with. I plan on hiring them again for any future tree work I have done."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.

The best tools for tree removal include a chainsaw for large trees, an ax for notching and cutting down small trees, and a wedge to help control the direction a tree falls in. A hatchet can be useful for very small trees, but won’t be effective for medium to large trees.

You should avoid cutting off the top of mature cherry trees. This process is called tree topping, and it’s not recommended for cherry trees—or any trees, for that matter. Tree topping removes between one-third to half of the length of the tree trunk, resulting in structurally unsound, fruitless suckers. The only exception is for saplings. Young pie, sour, and tart cherry trees that are over 30 inches tall in the fall or winter before the tree blooms can benefit from heading cuts.

Pruning trees during the summer can be a bad idea because the new growth will take place during the hottest months of the year, which can stress your tree out. Similarly, pruning during the early fall can be a bad idea, too, because you’d be stimulating new growth when most trees are aiming to go dormant.

Pruning recommendations will vary by the type of tree, but generally, waiting until winter to prune your trees is a good idea.

The best tool to cut trees is a chain saw. You can adjust your chain saw to the correct size based on the size of the branches, offering you the fastest and cleanest cut for medium- to large-sized trees. Depending on the type of chainsaw you use, you can cut through larger trees than you would with a more manual tool like an ax.
